Children's Summer Worship!

For the next 2 Sundays, August 2nd and August 9th, we won't be having Children's Worship, and no Nursery Care will be provided. Both services will resume on Sunday August 16th!

Sunday Coffee Hour

Please stay after our Sunday worship service for a coffee hour hosted by the Women’s Fellowship. 

Dr. Todd Allen will be sharing reflections on the history and meaning of the Civil Rights Movement for faith communities today.

Rabbi David Fainsilber

Rabbi David Fainsilber is the spiritual leader and first full-time rabbi of the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe. Originally from Montreal, Rabbi David and his wife Alison joined our community in 2013. You may spot Rabbi David, Alison, and their three children skiing at the mountain, biking on the Lamoille Rail Trail, or schmoozing at the Farmer’s Market.

Dr. Todd Allen

Dr. Todd Allen currently serves as the Vice President for Diversity Affairs at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, PA. In this senior leadership role, he provides focused attention to institution-wide policies and practices that promote inclusive excellence through the pursuit of diversity across the university. He is the founder of the Common Ground Project, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching the history of the Civil Rights Movement. For the past 25 years, in partnership with the PNC Foundation, he has led the “Returning to the Roots of Civil Rights” bus tour, an initiative that allows people from all over the country to travel to many of the key southern sites of the Civil Rights Movement. 

A native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania he is married to Lonette and they have a son named Bryce.

Rev. Dr. Becca Girrell

Rev. Dr. Becca Girrell has been serving as pastor at the United Community Church of Morrisville since July of 2020. Last year, Rev. Becca and UCCM launched a Resource Space on Mondays, with the help of interfaith and community partners. Rev. Becca is a proud Board member of Lamoille Community House, and commutes in from South Burlington, where she lives with her spouse, Sean (pastor of Faith UMC, South Burlington) and son, William (a rising junior at Harwood Union). 

Join Salvation Farms for Blueberry Picking on Wednesday!

Let's try this again! In support of our long-standing partnership, SCC volunteers will be picking blueberries for Salvation Farms to distribute. We will meet at the Church at 8:30AM or meet us at the farm by 9:00AM!

For the past 20 years, Salvation Farms has partnered with Vermont farmers to rescue fresh, nutritious food that might otherwise go to waste because of labor shortages, transportation challenges, or other barriers. This food is then distributed to organizations that serve people experiencing food insecurity, as well as children, seniors, and other vulnerable members of our communities.

Sabbatical Book Study!

A short book study based on the book by Walter Brueggemann "Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now"

I was reading this book on vacation, busy as ever, when I realized that Brueggemann was talking to me. In reviewing the history of God’s people and the call of God to resist the ever-present demands to work, he was inviting me to pause, not do one more thing, but to lean into the gift of what sabbath time (time away) is all about. It’s not only resistance to the demands of our society, but alternative to all the things that eat up our ‘rest time.”

When I grew up in Philadelphia, Sundays were a day of rest. Stores were closed. We took walks in the woods. No one had to be up at 4 am for sports practice. And, think back to the times of power outages, when we were forced to stop. To gather around candlelight and visit with each other.

Bruggemann offers us a biblical perspective of God’s call to Gods’ people to rest, to honor the Sabbath, to revisit the memory of being freed from slavery and making the time to be in God’s presence. In our day, it’s an invitation to be freed from the slavery of thinking we have not done enough, that we have too much to do.
