World Communion Sunday
World Communion Sunday is a celebration observed around the world and takes place on the first Sunday of every October. This special Sunday promotes Christian unity and ecumenical cooperationIt focuses on an observance of Holy Communion. The tradition was begun in 1933 by Hugh Thomson Kerr who ministered in the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD. Originally envisioned by their Stewardship Committee, it was their attempt to bring churches together in a service of Christian unity—in which everyone might receive both inspiration and information, and how each congregation is interconnected one with another. In 1940, the Federal Councils of Churches (now the National Council of Churches) endorsed World Communion Sunday and began to promote it to Christian churches worldwide.
Here at Stowe Community Church, I am excited to join in this tradition this upcoming Sunday as we look at a parable told by Jesus from the Gospel of Luke 14: 15-24. This story reminds us that we are all invited to feast at God’s table and I invite each and every one of you to join with us in this celebration either in person or online this World Communion Sunday.
Grace and peace,
Dan Haugh

October Mission BOU - Breakfast On Us!
The Mission and Service Committee is pleased to highlight the United Community Church of Morrisville as our October Mission of the Month. Their Breakfast on Us ministry provides a free, hot breakfast to anyone in the community, five mornings a week. Since beginning in 2015, the ministry has grown to serve more than 10,000 breakfasts each year. More than just a meal, Breakfast on Us offers a welcoming place where people can gather, connect with others, and access additional community resources.
Kathy Miller will speak to our congregation on Sunday, October 18th during worship. She will share more about this important ministry and the many ways United Community Church of Morrisville reaches out to support people who may be experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, or other challenges. Through hospitality, food, and connection, their ministry strives to offer dignity and welcome to all.
