Thought for the Week

"When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow with humble adoration

And then proclaim, "My God, how great Thou art""

Stuart K. Hine

Once again we're hearing that folks are receiving "spoofing" emails that appear to be from Pastor Dan, but are not! The underlying email address will NOT be Dan's real address which is shown above.

Joseph and the Pharoah

Children's Worship!

This week's Children's Worship Lesson title is: Joseph II, and the Key Phrase associated with the Lesson is:

An enslaved Joseph unexpectedly rises to power.

And the Key Bible Verse that is associated with the Lesson is:

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command; only with regard to the throne will I be greater than you.”

                                (Genesis 41: 39-40)

Youth

SCC Youth Ministry

Join us this Sunday, October 25, from 9:40–10:30 AM for a special guest speaker immediately following the Blessing of the Costumes! We will start in the sanctuary, for any youth who would like to attend in costume and have it blessed by Pastor Dan. We will then move to the youth room to enjoy our guest speaker.

Our guest Susan Jones will be sharing about Norah’s Beads, Norah's story, and the work connected to this initiative. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to listen, learn, ask thoughtful questions, and explore how we can make a positive difference in our community and put our theme for this quarter, Peace-Building into action.

BOU

October Mission BOU - Breakfast On Us!

The Mission and Service Committee is pleased to recognize United Community Church of Morrisville (UCCM) as our October Mission of the Month. Unfortunately, Kathy Miller, UCCM’s Breakfast on Us and CARE Director, had a family emergency and could not join us for Sunday worship. However, we felt their important work deserved to be shared.

UCCM reaches out to people facing food insecurity, homelessness, and other challenges. Through food, hospitality, and connection, the church offers a welcoming place where everyone is treated with dignity and care.

More than 11 years ago, three women from UCCM began serving free breakfast five days a week. Today, Breakfast on Us (BOU) serves more than 10,000 breakfasts each year. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday, from 7–9 a.m., including holidays. Volunteers prepare meals and serve guests at their tables. The food and supplies are provided through donations.

Breakfast on Us is about more than food. It brings people together, builds friendships, and helps people feel less alone. Everyone is welcome!

Following the 2024 flooding in Morrisville, UCCM received donations to improve its kitchen and dining room. These improvements helped create a warm and welcoming space for people to gather and connect with community resources.

In December 2024, the CARE Resource and Referral Space (Common Access to Resources for Everyone) opened. CARE is now open every Monday, including holidays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests can enjoy a free lunch and receive help from local agencies with housing, health care, mental health, recovery, applications, and other needs. In 2025, CARE served more than 1,000 meals.

Together, Breakfast on Us, CARE, and UCCM’s monthly free dinner served more than 12,100 meals in 2026. These programs depend on volunteers, community partners, and donations to continue their work.

There are many ways to help. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve breakfast and to staff CARE on Mondays. Donations of money, food, seasonal clothing, and other supplies are also welcome. To volunteer with Breakfast on Us, contact the UCCM office and ask for church administrator Richard.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it is also a good time to remind ourselves to take care of our health. Please make time for your recommended yearly screenings and checkups—mammograms, colonoscopies, prostate exams, skin checks, and other screenings appropriate for you. Early detection can make a difference.

Want to help more? Help a Stowe Woman battling Cancer by providing meals

I also invite you to consider providing a meal for Becky Carson a young Stowe woman and her husband. For the last 18 months Becky has been battling cancer and is currently undergoing a particularly difficult treatment leaving her very fatigued and weak. If you would like to help, consider signing up to provide a meal for her and her husband through Meal Train.

A simple meal is a small way to offer comfort, care, and support during a challenging time.

Africa Trip Sign Up!

Trip Dates: July 8-15, 2027

Hi everyone, I have been working hard on the interfaith journey which will begin with a support trip to our Mission in Kenya. In June I shared beginning information about the upcoming trip with our congregation.

The long-awaited program for our spiritual journey and cultural service trip to Africa is ready. You can find our trip itinerary, options and details at their website https://bodymindspiritjourneys.com Our travel partner is with a division RMC Travel, whom I have used for over 20 trips for university local service trips and for our last, very successful interfaith Mission trip. You can also sign up for the trip at https://bodymindspiritjourneys.com/africa27-reg. Due to the size of our accommodations and the rural nature of our mission area, we will need to limit the trip to a smaller group. The recommended minimum age of participation is multigenerational, with a minimum age range of middle/high school.

Early registration is highly encouraged. Please free to reach out with any questions to my email:

anneb455@gmail.com or by phone at 802-355-8661

In faith, hope and love, Anne Bongiorno

Eating Well

Eating Well Ministry!

SCC's Eating Well ministry seeks to help the problem of food insecurity in Vermont. We meet about twice monthly to cook fresh, healthy meals for freezing and distributing to local partners or individuals in need. We would like to expand into doing more social-mixer meals for the wider community, as well, but we need man (or woman) power! If you'd like to join in cooking, planning, or distributing meals--or if you know an individual who could benefit from receiving such meals--please contact Nikki Canalichio at 214-725-0088, or nikkicm23@gmail.com.

"Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" BYU Inauguration Combined Choirs and Orchestra

We're singing a couple of my favorite hymns this Sunday so I thought I'd share my favorite versions of them! Here's an impressive rendition of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" by the massed BYU choruses.

How Great Thou Art (Arr. Nelson) | Atlanta Master Chorale

"How Great Thou Art" ranks as one of the most popular hymns still today. This arrangement by Eric Nelson director of the Atlanta Master Chorale is my favorite. It emphasizes the last verse which brings me to tears every time!
