Praying the Psalms- Every Tuesday at 12:00 noon!
In his book, Answering God: The Psalms as Tools for Prayer, Eugene Peterson notes that the Psalms are best understood by praying them. “The praying people, whose prayers are the Psalms, prayed as a worshipping community...We are most congruent with the conditions in which the Psalms were produced and prayed when we pray in a praying congregation.”
You are invited to join Pastor Dan via Zoom each week for 30 minutes on Tuesdays at noon to pray together, using the prayer book of Jesus as our guide.
Bible Study on the Psalms this Fall
During Pastor Dan’s sermon series on the Psalms, plan to enhance your understanding of this rich book of the Bible by joining the study series, "Praying the Psalms." For six Thursdays, beginning October 9 from 7 to 8 PM on Zoom, we will explore Psalms as prayers on such topics as hope, joy, gratitude and trust. The study guide is entitled Praying the Psalms, by Juanita Ryan and can be ordered from www.ivpress.com. To join the study, please contact Kathe Rhinesmith at katherhinesmith@gmail.com.

October Green Team tip
50 states, 50 Fixes is a very engaging project undertaken by the New York Times that highlights an environmental solution or strategy in the works in each state. This is a fascinating article about innovative approaches to stewardship across the
country. If you subscribe to the NY Times, you can read the article by clicking the link below:
https://www.nytimes,com/interactive/2025/climate/50-states-fixes.html
A similar but less comprehensive article can be found at:
https://www.oneearth.org/nine-examples-of-local-governments-taking-climate-action/
Vermont’s “Clean Commitment” to our renewable energy bill is listed as one of these nine examples, reinforcing the fact that our Green Mountain state is committed to staying “green”!

Women's Fellowship News
Women's Outing at the Lake Mansfield Trout Club Oct 6 | 5-6:30 | Please RSVP
We hope you'll join the SCC Women's Outing Group for a gentle hike around the Mansfield Trout Club followed by drinks in the Club (address: 4400 Nebraska Valley Rd, Stowe, VT 05672). The Trout Club is a rustic camp located directly on the shores of Lake Mansfield in a peaceful, tucked away location. We'll begin with a hike on a trail near the lake and then return to the Club to enjoy wine, seltzer, cheese, fruit, and crackers. This is the perfect outing for those who have felt hesitant to hike mountain trails or who can only join for a portion of time. RSVP to Ashley Finlen Copeland at 919 323 1606 and indicate your preference for non-alcoholic seltzer or wine. For those wanting to attend the Women's Fellowship meeting at the Church at 7pm, there will be sufficient time to drive from the Trout Club to Church.
There will be a Women’s Fellowship meeting on Monday, October 6, at 7:00 in the Fellowship Hall at the church. We will look at the new kitchen and discuss the activities that are planned for the fall. Dessert and drinks will be served. Please respond if you plan to attend so we can plan for refreshments to Denise Wentz at women@stowecommunitychurch.org.
The Women's Fellowship has invited the women from the Blessed Sacrament Church, St. John's Episcopal Church, and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Stowe (JCOGS) to join us for an Interfaith Potluck Dinner on Thursday, October 16, at 6:00, in our Fellowship Hall. Please RSVP if you plan to attend or if you need more information please email women@stowecommunitychurch.org . Also contact the same address if you are not on the Women's Fellowship email list and would like to be added.

Psalms and Arts workshop!
Saturday, October 4th 9 am to 12:30 pm
Nikki Mustin will lead participants in understanding, internalizing, and gaining inspiration from a psalm, with a focus on imagery and exploring the emotion and beauty of the original Hebrew poetry. Then, participants will have a chance to create art or music based on the psalm--transferring the meaning and beauty for a modern audience. Any and all art forms will be welcomed--written poetry; visual arts such as painting, drawing, fiber arts, or sculpting; or performing arts such as music, dance, or spoken word poetry. Even culinary arts have been used for this! Bring your own materials, instruments, or whatever else you may need to create your pieces. The day will end with a brief presentation or showcase of the pieces--no need to have finished pieces, but even the ideas that have taken shape will be gladly shared with the group. Expertise not required--Psalms and arts are for everyone, not just professionals!"
Nikki Mustin is a Hebrew scholar and Bible Translation Consultant, serving as a missionary with a non-profit called the Seed Company and specializing in Hebrew poetry and its translation. She has a Masters' degree in Linguistics and Bible Translation from Dallas International University, and currently specializes in working with musicians and artists around the globe, using their local, indigenous arts to capture the message and beauty of Hebrew poetry, especially the Psalms. She also works with 3 languages in D.R. Congo long-term, and they are currently translating the book of Luke; as well as with a group who is creating the first-ever oral translation of the Bible in English.
