Weekly Reflection
You can watch this past week's sermon here:
"So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."
-Ephesians 4: 11-12

I truly believe each of us fits into one of these terms. Each of us are called into service, in some way, to some degree that fits the personality and talents that God gifted us when he created us. From a Pastor who gets up weekly to preach to the people, to the person who is behind the scenes, making sure the microphone is set up... these are all ambassadors of God, set on a path of service to God and to the people of God, in God's name.

Also, it does not have to be difficult, it does not have to be flashy or showy, to work 'for God'... it can be an unknown thing. Sitting next to someone on a bus and simply listening to them talk about how sick their mother is, lending an ear, saying a prayer for strangers. This, too, is being an apostle. And is an integral part of working for God here on earth.

But, it can be difficult to know where we fit in. Some of us can get shy about it, think we are not worthy, think we don't have what it takes to speak for God. However, as the Bible says:

"By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
-John 13:35

I have this quote on our refrigerator, given to me 3 years ago at the Women's Christmas meeting, when we had a cute Christmas stocking scavenger hunt. Love one another, that's all it takes. And that love can lead to so many avenues for service in Christ.

As far as church itself goes, there are so many ways to provide for both the 'roots' of the church' and the new 'leaves' or 'branches' of the church. And there are always ways to find bridges between the two. I personally think that Community of Faith does a fantastic job of it. The Vacation Bible School this year was a great way to see that, both old and young working together to aid these children (my son being one of them!) in their relationship with God.

So, don't hold back. Give what you can, when you can and never, ever think that what you are doing won't impact the masses. It's when you're not looking and simply doing what you can that the Holy Spirit takes over. So much has happened just be being one's self and gifting others with their time and talent.

Have a blessed and fruitful week,
Christine Eidukas
