Dear Mount Vernon Friends and Family,
We are moving forward. That is the objective that we set and that's the objective we are going to accomplish.
We are moving forward at Memorial Field.
We are moving forward on doing everything we can to fix our broken infrastructure, from bridges to roads, to streetlights and sewers.
It is time for the city to take action.
On Tuesday, August 21st, at 7:00pm, I will host a fiscal town hall. We'll discuss what's going on with your taxes, what's going on with Memorial Field, and what's going with our sewers.
We will discuss how we, as a community, can make sure that Mount Vernon gets better and work together to move Mount Vernon forward.
Call 914-665-2361 or email to RSVP.
Mayor Richard Thomas

This week, Mayor Thomas and the City of Mount Vernon meet with Westchester County to discuss the future of Memorial Field. As Mayor Thomas said, "This meeting was a real breakthrough. There is now total agreement with our position that Mount Vernon residents deserve an 8-lane track and field to host world-class events. Our visionary plan will make Memorial Field a major venue for sports and entertainment on the eastern seaboard. While some details remain to be worked out, we are on track to make Memorial Field a revenue generator for the city and county for years to come. This is the type of legacy project we need to cut property taxes, create jobs, and improve quality of life for good ."
The State of New York, Westchester County, and the Mayor's Office agree on one thing. Memorial Field must be cleaned up.
This week, we continued the clean-up by working with the Department of Environmental Conservation and Cornerstone Engineering to drill test pits into the contaminated debris underneath the tennis courts. Results are expected within a couple weeks. Once the environmental engineers determine the extent and nature of the material beneath the courts, we will be able to continue with the site remediation plan and fulfill the terms of the our agreement with Westchester County, which includes the installation of a world-class 8-lane competitive track.
