Last year, the College published its very first impact report, highlighting some of the major stories that youhelped to produce over the 2022 calendar year. The 2023 Impact Report has just been published and distributed to the College’s alumni, donors, and friends, and if you haven’t had an opportunity to view it yet you can do so here.
The theme for this year’s magazine is, “It’s All Possible”, and that’s because you make it all possible for our students and community every day. I hope that you enjoy looking back at some of the major stories from the past year and take pride in the impacts we are working together to make through our scholarship, mentoring, and dedication to improving the lives of all New Mexicans.
One particular impact that I’d like to bring to your attention is the establishment of the Quantum New Mexico Institute (QNM-I). QNM-I represents a timely investment in the future of New Mexico’s economy and workforce that leverages cutting-edge research from UNM and Sandia National Labs to make sure New Mexico plays a leading role in the quantum revolution. QNM-I builds on many years of excellent scholarship here at UNM, including by the Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQUIC), which started as a center within the Physics & Astronomy Department. Thanks to Professor Ivan Deutsch, the long-time director of CQUIC and founding director of QNM-I, and to the rest of the QNM-I team for ensuring that UNM and New Mexico continue to be national leaders in quantum.
As a reminder, submissions for the Writing Subvention and Travel Support programs are being accepted until February 15. More information, including the links to apply, is here.
I hope that the semester is off to a good start for you. Please don’t forget to continue forwarding your “Research Wins” to researchwins@unm.edu so that we can keep sharing your outstanding achievements far and wide.
Until next month,
