A Message From the Associate Dean for Research

Welcome to the new semester! I hope the summer has left you feeling refreshed and ready for the start of our 126th year as a College. This time of year is always exciting, as we start fresh and prepare for new beginnings. This year is no different, as today we welcome the 17th dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Jennifer Malat. Please join me in giving Jennifer a warm welcome to our Lobo community; you can learn a little about her here

If you saw Dean Malat’s message earlier today, you already know that her first priority is to get to know the College so that we can begin developing a plan that supports the University’s strategic plan, UNM 2040: Opportunity Defined. At the Chairs and Directors retreat on August 16 we began a discourse about the myriad of ways in which the College already supports UNM 2040 and some of the opportunities we have to do more. I look forward to working with you all to create a shared vision for how the College can continue to advance UNM and New Mexico in service of all New Mexicans.

For those of you planning your research activities for the coming year, applications for the Writing Subvention and Travel Support programs are now open. The Writing Subvention Program funds up to $3,000 towards the development of monograph, monograph chapter, or other research publications. The College’s Travel Support funds assist in the communication of research results by providing up to $2,000.00 in additional travel funds to professional conferences, workshops, and community events. To learn more about these programs, and to apply by September 15, click here.

I hope you all have a wonderful start to the year.

Welcome back, Lobos.

Christopher D. Lippitt, Ph.D.
