Sports Assembly
Congratulations to all of our sports teams. "What an amazing fall season!", Dr. John Courson said. Today we celebrated our students in a sports assembly honoring their success this past season.
Polar Express
All aboard! 2nd graders celebrated in a Park Maitland holiday tradition, as they boarded the Polar Express, based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Students could not wait to show their tickets, drink some delicious hot chocolate and experience incredible activities that only Park Maitland can deliver. They also enjoyed watching the movie at the Enzian as part of the fun. Each student will take home memories they will have forever, never forgetting to BELIEVE. "Today was amazing," Zoey H. said.
St. Augustine
4th grade students traveled to St. Augustine last Friday. They visited the fort, Castillo de San Marco National Monument. "The whole class got to roll down the hill after going up it. It was so fun! And I got so wet!, Harper G. said. Students also went to visit the colonial village, "The colonial village was so cool; we got to see a blacksmith forge and the oldest house in America," Baron K. said. "The whole class went to the pirate museum. The best part was the room with the sound effects. It was like you were in the battle!, Adela S. said. Students and parents had some free time to explore the shops and eat lunch, though their adventures were far from over.  Before the trip ended, students had the opportunity to stop at the Fountain of Youth. "After the Fountain of Youth, I felt younger", Alex L. said.

The Cereal Box Book Report

Quarter 2 saw 4th graders focusing on identifying different story elements throughout this quarter. Working with Ms. Schultz and Ms. McGuire, students chose a book to read from a Newbery Award List for Childrens' Literature.

They designed a cereal box that required them to identify story elements such as characters, setting, plot, problem/solution, book rating (how many stars), and feature a game/puzzle on the back along with a fun prize inside.

Students wrote commercials to "pitch" their cereal (book) to persuade others to buy it. Students created 30 second video clips on their iPads using iMovie. Some incorporated music and special effects. Some commercials involved their family members or friends. Some performed their commercial "Live" in front of the class.

The students found creative ways to explore literature in a new format. By creating a product, they discussed how they had to focus on the most important parts of the book to share.

We can't wait for you to check them out~
If I were an Elf writing
First grade students in Ms. Bartels and Ms. Fondo's class, did a fantastic job writing narratives this week from the perspective of an elf.
