West Melbourne Weekly Roundup

The City has, for years, published a weekly "Friday Memo" to share notable activities from the week and provide information on upcoming events. We love sharing information about the City, however we're trying something new! The traditional "Friday Memo" has transitioned into the West Melbourne Weekly Roundup. We'll continue providing a weekly summary of activities and upcoming events, but in a new, more mobile-friendly format. We hope you enjoy the fresh new look of our weekly publication!

USE OF FORCE

CERTIFICATIONS

The department completed the certification of our ‘use of force’ policies with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in compliance with a presidential executive order that was issued in 2020. Agencies must certify that their policies meet certain federal guidelines in order to be eligible for any grant funding by the Department of Justice. FDLE provided us with a letter of certification which is good for the next 3 years.

FENTANYL PREVENTION

GRANT

The department was awarded over $6,000 in grant funding from the State of Florida for the fight against fentanyl in our region. In 2023, the Florida Legislature established state funding under the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (S.A.F.E.) in Florida programs to conduct investigations designed to combat illegal fentanyl activity. This grant will provide us with equipment to assist with investigations.

REVERSE CHRISTMAS PARADE

It's almost that wonderful time of the year! Help us bring the gift of the holidays to some special children. You can drop off your unwrapped gifts to the West Melbourne Police Department or join us on November 28th when the parade comes through.

Vision Zero

Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.

This Thanksgiving weekend, millions will hit our nation's roads, eager to spend time with family and friends. It’s one of the busiest travel times of the year, and unfortunately more people on the roadways means the potential for more vehicle crashes. Remember: Click It or Ticket ... cops will be watching you this Thanksgiving weekend.
