Next CalMedForce Application Opens August 1


CalMedForce administers annual grants to fund residency positions at GME programs throughout California. Awardees are selected based on their ability to support and expand the physician workforce to meet the demands of California’s diverse and growing patient population, with a focus on medically underserved populations. There is $38 million available to award to medical residency programs in this cycle. This year’s application will be open from August 1 to September 15, 2023. Learn more here

CA Physicians Can Now Apply for PSLF



The U.S. Department of Education’s updated Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program launched on July 1, 2023, and will now allow eligible California physicians to participate in the program, despite our state prohibitions on physician employment by private non-profit hospitals, clinics, foundations and other health care entities. To help physicians navigate the new application form and its new definitions, CMA has updated its guide, “Public Service Loan Forgiveness What California Physicians Need to Know.

Health Equity Leadership Summit in San Jose this September


Physicians for a Healthy California (PHA) is hosting the Health Equity Leadership Summit in San Jose on September 14 and 15. This event provides an opportunity for physicians, executives, advocates, and allies to find community, engage in hands-on trainings and workshops, and hold in-depth conversations about how they are addressing the issue of health equity in California through their care of underserved communities throughout the state. 988 Suicide Lifeline Adds Spanish Text and Chat Services



One year after the rollout of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and its 988 Lifeline partners announced the addition of Spanish text and chat services. Specialized services for LGBTQI+ youth and young adults were also added earlier this month, following a successful pilot test. We encourage you to let your patients know that this life-saving service is available.

Touro Free Clinic Recruiting Physician Preceptors



The Touro University Student-Run Free Clinic (SRFC) is looking to recruit physician preceptors to supervise the medical student volunteers. The SRFC provides free, compassionate, quality health services to Vallejo and surrounding communities every Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Norman C. King community center in Vallejo. The clinic operating time is split into two shifts, 4:30-6:30 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm. Preceptors can take one or both shifts and commit to one or multiple shifts in a semester. Narcan Trainings & Harm Reduction Program



Drug Safe Solano is hosting a Narcan trainings on July 29 at 1 pm. Please share this opportunity with your networks. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion and a unit of Narcan. The Drug Safe Solano Harm Reduction Program takes place every Thursday from 4 to 6 pm at the Norman C. King Community Center in Vallejo where community members can get free Narcan and free fentanyl test strips and dispose of needles safely.
