Hi
- as temperatures rise, your STEMinist is also HOT off the presses with more content and activities to keep you going. Stay cool and safe!
Ever wonder what it's like being a lineworker for an electric utility company?
Check out this feature and the above video highlighting the lineworkers at PECO (an Exelon company), southeastern Pennsylvania's electric and natural gas utility. While much of the nation has been on lockdown since the pandemic started, these essential lineworkers have been working around the clock to make sure we continue to have the necessary power and gas to keep our lives going as seamlessly as possible.
While we're on the topic of space, now that we have a little more free time on our hands, why not spend it
watching some of the greatest space movies ever made? Many of you may have already seen
Hidden Figures, but have you also seen some other amazing movies, like
Contact,
First Man, and (one of our favorites)
Apollo 13? These movies are sure to spark your interest in the wonders and science of space. They'll also highlight how some historic missions shaped humankind's ambitions to explore worlds beyond our own.
Did you miss the USA Science and Engineering Festival's X-STEM All Access series of virtual events featured in STEMinist a couple weeks ago? Not to worry! They are now available to view on-demand for free on their
website or on
YouTube. The first video is a session on Shattering STEM Stereotypes (beginning around the 7:30 mark), led by Biomedical Scientist and Social Entrepreneur Dr. Knatokie Ford and Google Software Engineer Kim Swennen.
The second video, Ambassadors of Conservation and Climate Change, is another great one to watch and have a deeper understanding about what we can do to address climate change.
