There will be many articles written and comments made about 2020 and moving forward into 2021.The general consensus will be, "Thank goodness 2020 is behind us." As a successful originator in the commercial equipment leasing and finance industry, you may be making a mistake to just casually accept the general consensus. We need to dig deeper into the reality of 2020. There are many lessons learned which can help us to be better originators. Please consider the following:
From adversity there are always opportunities to be found.
You could have never predicted COVID-19, but it was your responsibility to adjust and maximize your personal value to survive and thrive amid the pandemic.
In March or April of 2020, we believed that the pandemic would have done much more damage to our portfolios than it has to-date. Most of our clients, small and medium size businesses, have adjusted and continue to forge forward.
Look inward and explore the following:
What have you done right?
What have you done wrong?
What will you continue doing?
What will you change?
What have you learned about yourself?
Instead of blaming others, celebrate your accomplishments - what specifically have you accomplished professionally and personally in 2020?
What will you do with your lessons learned?
Wheeler Business Consulting recently facilitated a survey of originators in the commercial equipment leasing and finance industry. The results showed that 90% of the participants were happy with their current position and plan to remain in their current position for the foreseeable future. (The results of the survey are available by clicking here.) Overall incomes remain robust and the vast majority of originators have incomes well into the six figures. The survey confirms that there remain unlimited opportunities for top originators in the commercial equipment leasing and finance industry. You control your own destiny.
We are all fortunate to participate in an industry that is essential to the economy; an industry that is willing to adjust quickly to new challenges; and an industry that is constantly moving forward. Reflect on 2020 with purpose and with a commitment to be your personal best.
