Adventure Report: Rambling East of Rampart
One of the biggest pandemic lockdown challenges facing the Scouts and leaders affiliated with Pack and Troops 2131 B and G between Rampart Village and Echo Park has been continuing physical activity while mostly homebound—and missing outdoor activities. “It’s really hard for me to just Zoom with Scouts,” says Scoutmaster Kendra Gorlitsky. “They can get bored and be hard to engage. But if you use Zoom to get ready for an outing, they’ll pay attention.” After the lockdown began almost a year ago, Gorlitsky started planning weekly hikes— implementing the Youth Sports Activities guidelines that allow units to plan activities for constant groups and cohorts of Scouts and leaders once they were available. Tentaroo Unit Accounts
Attention unit leaders. Did you know your unit has a Tentaroo Account? Our council has migrated to a new online registration system called Tentaroo. This system has both Individual and unit accounts. Each unit has a pre-made account for making registrations online.  Login information was sent to each Unit leader a few months ago, but if you are the unit leader and do not know your Tentaroo unit Account login or are having trouble with your individual account, please call our Tentaroo Help Desk, Abigail Fuentes, (213) 718-6676.

Anyone from the unit with the username and password can use Tentaroo. The username and password are specific to the unit, not the individual user. This account can be used to pay a unit’s registration, but it can also be used to make camping reservation.

For more information, Click here to learn how to manage your account, change passwords and update your information.

Scouts Can Help Test a Merit Badge Resource App
You found a cool link with useful information your Scouts could use for the First Aid merit badge. You could send it out in an email blast or post it on the troop’s social media page, but as time marches on, the link likely would get lost in those busy channels. If only there was a source that would collect and prioritize helpful information in a handy digital format.

The BSA is seeking Scouts to beta-test a new app designed to do just that. It’s called the Merit Badge Helpers app. Scouts ages 14-20 can apply here; they will need parental permission and any emails will also be sent to parents. Scouts should expect at least a four-hour commitment testing the app and providing feedback.

Belcher Eagle Scout Scholarship
Each year the Greater Los Angeles Area Council awards up to three Belcher Scholarships to Eagle Scouts. The Donald D. and M. Marie Belcher Charitable Foundation has established a special scholarship fund for Eagle Scouts in our council who have plans to attend a four-year college or university following high school graduation.

The funding will be a 2-year $7,000 college scholarship awarded each year in the amount of $3,500 the first year, renewable for a second year, with at least 24 college credits completed and a college grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above.

Reminder: Change in Scoutbook
Effective March 1, 2021, Scoutbook’s leader invite process will perform a check for a BSA issued MemberID and active BSA registration when being invited to connect with the unit roster. Prior to March 1st, unit leaders should check their rosters in Member Manager at my.scouting.org to ensure all adult leaders listed in Scoutbook are also registered on the official roster or otherwise with the BSA. Action should be taken with the local council to ensure all adult leaders are registered with the BSA.
SCOUTING FOR FOOD EASTER EDITION!
GLAAC will be hosting the first Scouting for Food Drive of 2021 on March 27, 2021. I am currently looking for hosts for this event. Hosts can be individual scout families, a pack, troop, crew, ship, or lodge that can host at their charter location (with COVID distancing in place). GLAAC would love to have representation from each district. The need is great & the more hosts we have, the better we can do! Please reach out to me at cissie.andrews@hotmail.com if you would like to host or participate. And, we love repeat hosts! Anyone who hosted in September, November or December knows what an awesome experience this is! Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support we collected over 29 tons of food, thousands of $$ in grocery store gift cards, toiletries, and clothes in 2020! It was a major success and scores of families benefitted. Please let me know if we can count on you again! Thank you!

Wilderness First Aid Certification
Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification will continue to be required for all backcountry adventures that meet the definition of a “trek program” (see NCAP standard PS-218). As a reminder, a current CPR/AED certification from a nationally recognized agency is a pre-requisite for a WFA course. The below document provides several suggestions on how units and trek programs can complete this critical safety certification requirement. Questions? Email health.safety@scouting.org or outdoorprograms@scouting.org
