Welcome to Another Recharter Year! Every year, every unit in the Boy Scouts of America “BSA” goes through the process of renewing the charter that authorizes a community organization to operate the Scouting program through a Troop, Pack, Crew, Ship, or Post. The charter certifies the agreement between the chartered organization–an organization that agrees to utilize Scouting as a part of its service to youth–and the BSA.
Virtual 5K and 10k! Run
We are excited to announce our first Scouts on the Run partnered with Western Los Angeles County Council! Join us on a virtual 5K and 10k! What is Scouts on the Run? It’s a virtual 5k and 10k which allows Scouts, youth, and families to participate whether they run on a treadmill, jog around the neighborhood, or walk around the block. Or you can even run from your couch. Just make sure you follow social distancing guidelines. Sign up today!
Membership Growth
This week we held our first ever Virtual Membership Kickoff. Over 150 Cub Scout Packs were represented in this meeting where we discussed the membership growth plan created by the Council’s Membership Growth Committee.

The plan showcases a marketing partnership between Packs, the Council, and our National Service Center. It also provides detail about how our Virtual recruitment events will work during the week of August 31 – September 3, 2020. Finally, it outlines the actions that Pack volunteers can take to inspire their youth and families to invite others to join. Click here the recording and the corresponding slides.

Gathering of Eagles Presentation On The Practice of Law
On Thursday, July 30th, the GLAAC Eagle Scout Association held another Gathering of Eagles event in their series of social and educational activities, but for the first time, the event was held virtually. The focus of this activity was to bring together four esteemed Eagle Scout attorneys who shared their insights in the career of law.
The Boy Scout Statue Has Been Removed for Safekeeping.
The San Gabriel Valley Council statue originally stood as a symbol of Boy Scouting at the Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena headquarters until moved to Smiser Scout Center in 1994. Now that Smiser will become a lease property for GLAAC it was deemed appropriate that our statue be relocated where more scouts and scouters could enjoy it.
