Onegs are back, and we need your help! We are asking all members to consider signing up for at least one Shabbat morning to help with set up and clean up. Most weeks it will be very simple - just challah, wine, and some prepackaged snacks.
Starting in August, we'll also have one week per month that is a full lunch. For those, we'll also need a bit more help on Saturday morning, as well as someone to go to either Pikesville or Rockville on Friday to get food.
Please click here to sign up. If you have any questions, please contact Rachelle Tannenbaum at retannenbaum@gmail.com.
It is with thanks that we acknowledge the donations made to the Oneg/Kiddush fund. Howard Salob reads the list at services each Shabbat and we publish the list in The Weekly Shofar as well. Click here to view a list of donations for June 2022. In addition to using the funds to serve food in the building, we are donating funds to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and the Anne Arundel Community College Student Food Bank.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Men’s Club's Private Tour of the U.S. Naval Academy campus. We had a great time learning about the history and traditions of the Jewish Chapel - Uriah Levy Center, the Naval Academy Chapel, toured a dormitory room in Bancroft Hall, and much more.

Please be on the lookout for more exciting programs with the Men's Club in the coming months! Enjoy your Summer.

Movie Night at Kol Shalom | | |
|
On Thursday June 16 at 7 PM, Kol Shalom Movie Night presents (via Zoom) 7 Days in Entebbe, a PG-13 rated, 107-minute-long action thriller which was released in 2018. A Zoom link will be made available as the date draws closer.
This movie is based on the events 46 years ago between June 28 and July 4, 1976 (ironically the US bicentennial) when an Air France flight was hijacked by German left wing and Palestinian terrorists and eventually brought to the airport in Entebbe, Uganda, with the consent of dictator Idi Amin. Israeli and Orthodox Jewish passengers were separated while others were released. The terrorists threaten to kill the hostages and demand the release of over 50 jailed comrades. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Defense Minister Shimon Peres approve a daring high-stakes, risky rescue operation, with the memory of the 1973 Yom Kippur War still fresh in their minds. Unlike earlier movies about this rescue event, 7 Days in Entebbe presents Israeli, terrorist, and Air France crew perspectives.
A parallel fictional story involves the girlfriend of one of the IDF soldiers involved in the rescue. She is a dancer in the Batsheva Dance company’s “Minus 16” which dramatizes the hijacking and subsequent rescue of over 100 hostages through modern dance interpretation, performing to a stirring section of the Pesach song “Echad Mi Yodea” (Who Knows One). The wild dancing helps to highlight the terrifying nature of the situation, as well as the overall political ramifications of the hijacking. Some historical film footage appears at times in the movie, which was filmed in Malta. There is also a connection to Benjamin Netanyahu entering politics from this event.
Upon landing in Entebbe, one terrorist identifies Israel as a “fascist, Zionist, and racist state...and heir of Nazism”, which is the same language used by the BDS movement, anti-Israel and antisemitic individuals and organizations on college campuses, some corporations, and even some members of our government today… 46 years later!
