Bystander Intervention Resources

Bystander intervention awareness and strategies are an essential part of any violence prevention program or effort at higher education institutions, regardless of your institution's location or size. Compiled below are several resources for use by campus safety officials, advocates, faculty and staff, and community members.

The Ohio State University (OSU) implemented a "Buckeyes Got Your Back" program that is aimed at preventing sexual violence by encouraging bystander intervention. The OSU Office of Student Life created and published a bystander intervention video for all students and employees to view as a part of their orientation program.

Published by the White House Task Force to Protect Students From Sexual Assault and included in the Not Alone Report is the factsheet: Bystander-Focused Prevention of Sexual Violence (PDF). Included in this document are: common components of bystander intervention; resources on methods of delivery, to include highlighted programs and workshops; and information on the challenges to bystander action.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) offers an online resource collection to provide information and resources to use with your community members, as well as information and research on the effectiveness of bystander intervention. Materials included in the collection are:

Thank You
Giving Thanks

During this week of Thanksgiving, we would like to express our thanks to all the campus public safety officials for your service. You work tirelessly to provide safe environments for students, faculty, campus administrators, staff and many more people that come to campus communities every year. It is because of your dedication that we are so committed to making the National Center the best it can be.

We thank you for your work and we will strive to meet, and hopefully exceed, your expectations in the months and years to come.

Happy Thanksgiving!
