This Sunday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m. we launch our one-service summer worship schedule! This service will be both in-person and online. We return to our regular two-worship Sunday schedule on September 7.

Dr. Ritter's Book Release Event
We’re excited to announce the release of I Know My Way Home by Rev. Dr. Bill Ritter, Pastor Emeritus of Birmingham First. Join us on Sunday, June 15, after worship in Fellowship Hall for a special book signing event with Dr. Ritter. Books are $15, with all proceeds supporting the church.
If you’re unable to attend the event, copies will be available after June 15, for purchase in the Circuit Rider Book Store.

Hands On Mission: VBS Decorating Days
This June’s Hands On Mission invites you to help set the scene for an unforgettable adventure! Join us June 17–19 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as we transform the church into The True North for Vacation Bible School. Whether you come one day or all three, your help will create a welcoming, imaginative space for both our Birmingham and Berkley First kids and many children from the community.

Every Sunday, starting June 15 and going through the end of September, a produce table will be set up in Fellowship Hall. Church members may drop off extra flowers and or vegetables for others to purchase. All proceeds will go to the Hunger Ministry. A sign up will be sent out next week for those interested in volunteering to work the table on Sundays.

Each morning is filled with hands-on, age-appropriate mission work, followed by afternoons of fun and cultural adventures. Welcome Our 2025 Ministerial Intern: Gabriel Ervin
We are delighted to welcome Gabriel Ervin as our 2025 Ministerial Intern. He will be serving with us from May 20 through August 17. A familiar face to many, he has grown up at Birmingham First and brings with him a deep connection to our church, a passion for ministry, and a heart for service. We look forward to the gifts he will share with our congregation this summer as he continues to discern his call and grow in faith. "I made my first appearance at First Church playing the baby Jesus in the nativity scene. Since then, I have remained involved, from helping with Sunday School to writing the Choir Camp Bible Study beginning in 2022. Now I am honored to take on the role of ministerial intern. It is this community that imparted wisdom upon me and allowed me to grow deeper in my love for Jesus and His mission. From Sunday School, VBS, and Choir Camp, this church has not only been a pillar of community but a place where my faith could grow.
I grew up around here and graduated from Cranbrook in 2020. After that, I went to the University of Michigan, getting a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Religion and History. Currently, I study at Yale Divinity, where I have just completed the first year of the master’s program. Throughout my educational journey, I have focused on interpreting public policy through a moral lens. I hope to spend my summer here growing closer to the community I already love and learning more about the ways God is working in my own life and the life of the church." —Gabriel Ervin

Welcome Maggie!
We’re excited to welcome our Children & Family Ministry summer intern, Maggie Graves—a familiar face at Birmingham First! A member since childhood, Maggie just completed her freshman year at Michigan State University, where she studies Data Science. A Birmingham native, she enjoys baking, especially birthday cakes, and played soccer in high school. Her favorite Bible story is Peter walking on water, which reminds her of Jesus’s love even in doubt. We’re thrilled to have her on the team this summer!

Worship & Music Administrative Assistant (Part-time)
Be the essential force that transforms our vibrant Music Ministry from vision to reality. As Birmingham First UMC’s Worship and Music Administrative Assistant, you will skillfully handle detailed administrative tasks—coordinating choir schedules, managing the music library, preparing worship materials, and supporting special events—while also anticipating needs and proactively solving problems. By developing an intuitive understanding of our ministry’s rhythms, you will create systems that enable our ministry to thrive. Your behind-the-scenes excellence will directly facilitate meaningful worship experiences for hundreds each week. If you find fulfillment in both administrative precision and independent initiative, this opportunity might be your calling.
