We are very excited to host a Singing Communities Shabbaton here this weekend (April 28-29) with special guest Joey Weisenberg, the Creative Director of Mechon Hadar's Center for Jewish Communal Music. On Friday we will enjoy a special oneg with nigun-infused Shabbat preparations, and a dinner following services. After dinner, Joey will also lead us in a special program - please make sure to RSVP now for dinner on the temple website. The special Shabbat continues on Saturday with Joey merging nigunim with services and a lunch program following. (Again, please RSVP now! You won't want to miss this special guest!)

Have you registered for the art workshops that start next week?!? The entire month of May is filled with opportunities to participate in many different art forms with old and new friends at the temple! Register now for B'tzalel Art Festival Workshops taking place throughout May. Temple members should use the promo code MEMBER1 to save an additional $10 on each class. Save the date, as well, for our culminating festival on June 4th!

We are also delighted that Dr. Bill Hoy will be sharing his experiences with us on Tuesday night, May 2nd (more details below). Upcoming B'nai Mitzvah
Logan Chapman,  son of Ryan and Danielle Chapman, will become a Bar Mitzvah on April 29,  2017.  Logan attends Marco Forster Middle School, where, in addition to the core curriculum, he plays the string bass in the advanced orchestra. He and his classmates have been fortunate to perform on stage at Disneyland's California Adventure last Fall, and will be competing against other schools from around California in an orchestral concert this Spring.  At school, Logan is also learning leadership skills through his enrollment in the Associated Student Body (ASB), which is responsible for planning and staging schoolwide activities, including Spirit Day, school dances, intramural sports, and ASB fundraisers.

Outside of school, through six years of dedication, Logan has earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, but he has recently turned his focus to swimming, where he trains and competes with the Mission Viejo Nadadores.  It is through his passion for swimming that Logan has chosen to raise awareness and funds for the Swimming Saves Lives Foundation, an organization dedicated to ensuring adults know how to swim.  One of the Foundation's core principles, in an effort to eliminate deaths due to drowning, is centered upon the belief that if adults are comfortable around the water, their children are more likely to become water safe as well.

When not engrossed in all things school, music, or swimming, Logan has caught the travel bug.  Logan's grandparents, Paul and the late Madeline Chapman from Leawood, KS and Jay and Leslie Braun of Channel Islands, CA have helped to instill in Logan the value of strong family connections and a yearning for travel to places far and wide.  While traveling with or to see extended family from cities across the country, Logan has also gotten the chance to visit National Parks, iconic landmarks, and even a few places beyond our borders.  Having taken pictures of so many sites and memories shared with family and friends, photography is quickly becoming Logan's next great passion.
