Dear PCUM family,

Since the great author J.R.R. Tolkein was also a person of great faith in the ultimate victory of Christ's vulnerable love, the quote below could support the argument that his Lord of the Rings trilogy represents a narrative recasting of our journey through Lent. At any rate, it's as if Tolkein were writing today:

“The world is indeed full of peril

and in it there are many places of shadow.

But still there is much that is fair.

And though in all lands,

love is now mingled with grief,

it still grows, perhaps, the greater.”
