ANSWER TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION:

Why did Yaakov go learn in the Yeshiva of Shem and Eiver; why couldn't he learn Torah from his father Yitzchok?

Answer:

He was heading to Lavan's house - a life of Golus in a wicked environment - and he needed to be taught the rules of living as a Jew in galus, something that Shem and Ever knew, unlike Yitzchok who only lived in Eretz Yisroel. (Pshat of Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky Zatzal)

Rav Shalom Schwadron Zatzal (1913-1997)

His Yahrtzeit is on Tuesday, 22 Kislev

Rav Shalom Mordechai Hacohen Schwadron was the beloved, inimatble Maggid of Yerushalyim. He was named for his grandfather, the Maharsham, the leading posek in Galicia before World War I.

He lost his father at age seven, and for a time lived in an orphanage. After his bar mitzvah he studied in the Lomzer Yeshiva in Petach Tikvah, and later in the Chevron Yeshiva in Yerushalayim under Rav Yehuda Leib Chasman.

After his marriage to the sister of of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, he continued his studies in Kollel Ohel Torah. The kollel's members included Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and Rav Shmuel Wosner.

In addition to his renown as a maggid, he was a tremendous talmid Chacham, and he edited and published approximately 25 of his grandfather's works, as well as Lev Eliyahu (of Rab Elya Lopian), and the writings of Rav Chasman, Ohr Yohel.
