Dear Friends,
It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country
I am proud to announce that I secured $4,122,852 to invest in our communities through Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grants. These taxpayer dollars will return to New York’s 21st District in the form of valuable infrastructure, skills training that leads to good-paying jobs, economic development, and tourism in our region. NBRC grants and projects have already made a significant impact in our communities, and I am proud to take a leading role in increasing access to the program for Upstate New York and the North Country and ensuring NY-21 communities are prioritized by this critical program.
This year, eight projects in NY-21 will be funded through these grants, including:
-
$1,000,000 for the Village of Canton to design and construct a new secondary water source,
- $853,440 for the Town of Schroon to improve wastewater conveyance to local businesses and residences on Main Street along Schroon Lake,
- $675,452 for Paul Smith’s College to improve wastewater and drinking water services,
- $494,400 for St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency to rehabilitate the industrial track and bridge over the Oswegatchie River, which will restore reliable, direct rail service to the Dunn Paper Mill in Natural Dam and allow for further industrial development of parcels in the Town of Gouverneur,
-
$350,000 for Historic Saranac Lake to rehabilitate the historic Trudeau Building to create an accessible history museum campus in the downtown that will create jobs and drive economic development in the Adirondack North Country,
- $303,960 for the Adirondack Mountain Club renovates to the former Cascade Cross Country Ski Center to help visitors and residents connect with the many and varied natural assets of the Adirondacks,
- $285,600 for the North Country Chamber of Commerce in Plattsburgh to develop a comprehensive welding training program to train 50 individuals and prepare them to enter the workforce as a welder,
- $160,000 for Warren County to develop an improvement plan for the Warren County Bikeway and Feeder Canal Trail that serve as the connections between the Empire State Trail and Lake George as well as the various downtowns in between.
I will continue to advocate for Northern Border Regional Commission funding that has greatly benefited our North Country communities.

I am honored to join the Lake George community this week for the opening ceremony of the Lake George Wastewater Treatment Facility. After years in the works, this project has become a reality. I am proud to have secured $500,000 to complete this project through my work with the Northern Border Regional Commission. Now, this community has access to a much-need and modernized wastewater treatment facility. This event is just a taste of the impact critical federal grants can have on our communities, which is why I am proud to work to expand grant funding opportunities for our district and deliver this result for the community.
Across Upstate New York and the North Country, our families and local businesses are feeling the impact of inflation, the supply chain crisis, and the labor shortage. On Thursday, I visited the Walmart Grocery Distribution Center in Johnstown, which was an important opportunity for me to witness how our local workforce is addressing these issues and hear their concerns firsthand. Solving the supply chain crisis is critical to combatting skyrocketing inflation for every family in Upstate New York and the North Country, and I am proud to work towards solutions for these issues to support our local workforce and businesses, keep food and products on our shelves, and combat the inflation crisis.
One year ago today, our hearts were broken as President Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal led to the deadliest terrorist attack on Americans on the ground in a decade, which took the lives of 13 brave service members. We will never forget their courageous service and sacrifice on behalf of our great nation. House Republicans are committed to holding the Biden Administration accountable for this catastrophic withdrawal and ensuring the service of all of our Afghanistan veterans was not in vain.
Joe Biden’s reckless and illegal executive action will fuel the record-high inflation that is crushing every American and forcing the 87 percent of American adults who don’t have student loans to pay off the debts of the wealthy. This massive student loan bailout does nothing to rein in the cost of higher education or hold colleges accountable for saddling students with huge debt for degrees with little value in the workforce. House Republicans have introduced real solutions to fix the broken student loan system and protect taxpayers while expanding pathways to achieve the American Dream.
This week, I announced the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe will receive $857,119 from the Economic Development Administration to fund the Akwesasne Tourism Business Support project, which will support native tourism capacity building through small business technical assistance, product testing, and tourism-specific training in Hogansburg, New York. These funds will equip the tribe and fuel its tourism industry by increasing its capacity, supporting small businesses, and providing tourism-specific training.
