From the Pastor

Pope Francis / Papa Francisco

1936-2025

We are saddened by the death of our beloved Holy Father Pope Francis. His pontificate from the beginning was one of humility as he inspired not just Catholics, but people of goodwill all around the world. He is now being called “the People’s Pope”, because like Jesus in Luke chapter 4, his mission was to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and to let the oppressed go free. This was seen in his consistent ministry of promoting peace, human dignity, and social justice. We are grateful that he shook us out of our complacency and reminded us that we are all bound to God and one another above all else.

Pope Francis was a true prophet, a voice for God and a voice for the voiceless. That voice will be missed. In Pope Francis’s last public address, he preached care of the marginalized, the vulnerable, and migrants, saying “I would like all of us to hope anew and to revive our trust in others, including those who are different than ourselves. May we heed his wish!

I hope whoever comes next will continue Pope Francis’s steady, strong, and compassionate leadership.

In the heart of Jesus,

Fr. Richard

Parishioner Story - "All means ALL"

Dear Parishioners, Visitors, and Friends of Saint Paul,

We want to thank this community for being such inspiring advocates of God’s love and mercy.

As newcomers to Lexington we were recently in the position of seeking out a parish where we would be spiritually nourished and could serve God authentically as ourselves. We hoped to find a place where our hearts would be challenged, but our dignity would never be questioned. At Historic Saint Paul Catholic Church we believe we have found that community. The tender hearted people at Saint Paul are building a culture of radical inclusion by actively choosing to embrace everyone regardless of their current relationship with the catholic faith, their marital or family situation, their race, color, sexual orientation, gender, self image, or their self esteem. At this parish, all are welcome, and all means ALL.

Upon our first visit to the area we were immediately drawn to this welcoming spirit, the diversity in the pews around us, and especially to Saint Paul’s enthusiastic outreach to LGBTQ catholics; a not so common discovery in our experience. Finding a place of spiritual encouragement, given the rising hostility towards LGBTQ people, has been transformative for us in our faith journey. At Saint Paul we have found a community of deep faith, that is centered in Christ, and of incredible love and welcome. We have found a place where our walk with Christ is strengthened and encouraged. We pray that just as we have, all seekers in need of a spiritual home will find their way to this special place.

Message of the Week

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

A few years ago, I brought Holy Communion to a nursing home - the Alzheimer's wing, where I visited for a few minutes with a wonderful lady, then prepared for our reception of the Eucharist.

I picked up the wafer and held it out to her, saying, "This is the body of Christ." She took it and turned it over and over in her hand. She rubbed the embossed cross within the wafer with her thumb. She spoke in genuine wonder and awe: "The body of Christ. My goodness, what will God think of next?" she asked.

Together, we looked down at the wafer. There in her hand lay the broken body of God's son hung upon a cross. There lay the life of Jesus poured out, pressed down, cut into a tiny circle and placed in her outstretched palm.

It was the ultimate reality. The body of Christ, broken yet healed and able to heal all others. A woman held Christ's transformed body in her hand and marveled at the miracle.

"My goodness, what will God think of next?"

My friends, marvel at the miracle.
