Real Hurt, Biblical Help
Have you been hurt? Not a cut, or a broken bone. You know those “sticks and stones” that break your heart? Trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction. Our August sermon series is going to be addressing those painful areas of our lives - and the lives of God’s people from the beginning. You are not alone in the struggle, and God has words for you, no matter how you’re hurting.
God is our refuge and help, and ever present help in trouble (Psalm 46). In the weeks ahead, look forward to messages addressing:
July 31/August 1 – “Loneliness”
· Joseph | Genesis 37:1-6 & 19-23
August 7/8 – “Depression/ Anxiety”
· Elijah | 1 Kings 19:1-8
August 14/15 – “Shame”
· Cain | Genesis 4:8-16
August 21/22 – “Trauma”
· David | 1 Samuel 19:1-12
August 28/29 – “Addiction”
· Paul | 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

I Have Called You By Name
I am a relational person. I enjoy interacting with others. I have never used an ATM, choosing instead to walk into the bank and visit a teller.
A few years ago our local community bank was bought out by a large international bank. I still did my banking at the teller’s window, but I noticed something was different. It was the same building. The interest rates where the same. The banking options hadn’t really changed. Now, I was no longer a person, I was just another customer, often asked for photo identification before my transaction could begin.
A few years later a new local community bank opened its doors. I walked in, and to my surprise, I was greeted by name! The tellers were the same caring people who took care of my banking needs at the previous community bank. I had not seen these people for three years, but they remembered me…and called me by name. This was the difference maker for me.
Ours is a relational God. The Lord says to us, Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine Isaiah 43:1). It is the Lord, who calls us by name, who is personally involved in our lives. When you call on Him in prayer, know that you are speaking to the One who, out of love, created and redeemed you. He is intricately involved in your life and prepares a place for you in heaven through the cross and empty tomb.
Thanks for your partnership in prayer,
Pastor Raasch

All who battle cancer, including Jim Melichar, Pastor Joel Brandt, Bob Harrer, Gary Pipkorn, Adrian Buntrock, Jenny Marquardt, Dave Ginke, Steve Lettau, Gary Bergin, Wayne Kokta, and Tammy Schleuter. Pray that the Lord would bless their treatments, relieve their pain and strengthen them and their families in faith.
-
Eugene Bentley, Lillian Pergande, Audrey Pelzer and Mary & Jim Heiman as they contend with ongoing health issues. Pray for their medical teams, that God would bless them and use them as His instruments of healing.
-
Pray for the family of Eileen Siegel, whom the Lord called to eternal life. Eileen served as one of our organists and also one of our hand bell directors for our school children. She and her husband, Graham, recently moved to Colorado. Lift up the Siegel family to the Lord for peace and comfort in the Gospel promise of life eternal through faith in Jesus.
-
Pray for our Servant Team Traveling to Keweenaw Basecamp in the upper peninsula of Michigan, where they will assist in building cabins. Give thanks for this Lutheran camp and pray for the safety of our team.

“Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14 Stephen Ministry is based on the idea that all Christians are ministers. The responsibility for passing on God’s love is for all Christians, not just a chosen few. God has given us all gifts for ministry and has called us to put these gifts to good use. Stephen Ministry is a place where people with special gifts can use those gifts to bring Christ’s love to people in need. To receive the care of a Stephen Minister, please contact Pastor Reichmann at 377-6610. You do not need to be a member of First Immanuel or River of Life.
