It’s New!
New Year’s always brings with it a spirit of redemption. With a New Year comes the hope of new life.
There are those who will try to put away old habits—smoking, improper eating, too little rest. Some will try to incorporate new and healthy routines—losing weight, getting more exercise, more sleep. Some will start new jobs.
What is it about New Year’s that gives us such hope? I believe it is the idea that we get to start over with a clean slate.
It’s not just January 1st that beckons us to begin anew. Through Jesus Christ we are given the promise and hope of new life with meaning and purpose each and every new day.
We are not perfect people. This is why Martin Luther calls us to return to the promise God made with us in baptism. We can begin each day in repentance for the sin we commit and find forgiveness.
It is forgiveness that creates new life. New life isn’t about forgetting yesterday; it’s about being forgiven of yesterday’s sin. New life isn’t about my ability to do things better, but Jesus’ ability to do all things perfect for us.
Every day we have new life because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. His promise to be with us always and to use all things in our lives for good gives us a new and purpose-filled life.
Happy New Year!

PRAYING FOR YOURSELF
Reflect on what is on your heart and mind and take it to God in prayer.
Is there something we can pray about for you?
|
|
-
Our members who are shut in due to health issues or the COVID culture. Pray that the Lord would give to them peace in their souls and the joy of a new year.
-
All who battle cancer, including Peggy Jaeger, Wayne Kokta, Gary Bergin, Jim Melichar, Pastor Joel Brandt, Jayne Peterson and Tim Koehler. Pray that the Lord would bless their treatments, relieve their pain and strengthen them and their families in faith.
-
Dick Larson, Lois Bublitz, John Steffen, Diana Carter and Craig Raatz, as they contend with ongoing health issues. Pray for their medical teams, that God would bless them and use them as His instruments of healing.

In Luke 10:30, we begin to read the parable of the Good Samaritan. As followers of Christ, we pray that we would live our faith and be a “Good Samaritan” to those in need. In addition, all of us at one time or another, can identify with the man lying on the side of the road in need of care. God sends Good Samaritans to give us care; we should not reject His gift! Be open to receiving care yourself should the need arise. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help when you encounter a difficult time. God created us not only to help others, but also to receive help when we need it. Keep Stephen Ministry open as on option for yourself should you encounter difficulties in the future. To learn if the one-on-one confidential ministry might be right for you or a friend, please call Pastor Reichmann at 377-6610 for more information. Please ask permission before referring someone.
