Dear Denise,
We have had such a wonderful response to the Welcome Food Kits supporting World Relief-Western NY. We delivered over 50 kits in less than a month! The work is ongoing, and we welcome your donation anytime. We are a mighty and powerful church!! This is surely serving God and EACH OTHER.
We mentioned a few weeks ago that we would have information on hygiene kits which are called Welcome Cleaning Kits. The supplies should be placed into reusable bags or a laundry basket. Below are the items that are needed for each kit.
Dish soap – 2 bottles Glass cleaner – 1 bottle
All-purpose cleaner – 2 bottles Paper Towels – 4-8 rolls
Laundry detergent – bottles Rubber gloves – 2 sets
Dryer sheets – 1 box Aluminum Foil - 1 box
Trash bags – 1 box Plastic Wrap – 1 box
Sponges – 4 Disinfectant wipes – 2 boxes
Toilet bowl cleaners – 2 bottles Hand sanitizer – 3 bottles
When you bring your kits to church during office hours, please place them in the Sacristy. The Social Justice Committee will make plans to deliver them to World Relief. Thank you so much for your support in the mission to help refugees coming the Western New York.
PMUNY-Prison Ministry of Upstate New York
At our last Social Justice Committee meeting we hosted speaker, Joyce McAndrew from PMUNY-Prison Ministry of Upstate New York. PMUNY is a group of dedicated volunteers who bring light and hope into the darkness of many Upstate New York correctional facilities through spiritual retreats and focused ecumenical programs.
They treat incarcerated individuals with respect and as human beings who matter. Through the Houses of Healing-A Prisoners Guide to Inner Power and Freedom, a 13-week program written by Robin Casarjian, they hope to show men, women and adolescents they are magnificently made, worthy and capable of change.
Last Sunday, Betty asked that we complete cards of Hope to be given to the incarcerated individuals that PMUNY serves. We hope that you will take the time to complete one of these cards. In the weeks to come we will tell you of other small opportunities where you might be willing to support this wonderful organization. Do you want to learn more? Reach out to pmuny.org or call 585-633-0184. Take a moment to talk with our own, Julie Knapp, who teaches the 13-week program.
COMING SOON
Cheryl Zehner of the Social Justice Committee has been diligently working on a Resources for Support and Safety collection to be a part of our website. This resource page will list current Hotline numbers, programs and contact information for organizations that support Disability, LGBTQI and Allies, Immigration and Migrants, Unhomed/Houseless Help, Mental Health, Alcohol/Drug Abuse, Racial Discrimination, Bereavement Support, Domestic Violence, and Food Assistance. We will be completing this in the next few weeks and will let you know when the page has been added to our website. Thank you, Cheryl, for all your hard work!!
