Dear Parents,
We had a tremendous turnout for our first Malden Catholic Webinar last Thursday evening and I am very grateful for all of the input and questions that were shared during the event. We believe in having an open line of communication with all of our families, so in case you were not able to join us, I have attached a recording of the webinar. Our leadership team compiled the questions from our discussion and we are preparing a Parent Q&A document that I will share with you on Wednesday.
As part of our transition during this unprecedented time, we have created a new model for Distance Learning that utilizes Zoom for interactive classes and a modified class schedule beginning on Monday, April 6. I will be hosting a
Distance Learning -
New Academic Schedule Webinar
this Wednesday, April 1 at 6 PM
to review the changes with parents.
Click here to register for the webinar.
Our Principals will then host a student webinar this Friday to prepare them for the changes as well.
The
Distance Learning
page on the MC website
houses
everything you need to know during this remote learning period including updates, departmental information and support materials.
I look forward to seeing you again on Wednesday and as always, please feel free to email me directly with any questions.
Thank you for your prayers and support,
John K. Thornburg

Lenten Reflection from Brother Dan
|
Dear Malden Catholic Community,
St. Patrick Parish in Stoneham is one of the several churches where I regularly attend Mass. It is always a special occasion when the pastor, Fr. Mario Orrigo, is the celebrant. Each time, he greets the people with open arms and a hearty, "Well, Good Morning Church" or "Good Afternoon Church!" In such an enthusiastic manner, he reminds the people that they are the Church, not the building in which we gather. In these unusual times, when we are unable to to attend Mass in a building, the Church, the people united with God, can still celebrate the Mass through television broadcasts. To paraphrase a popular saying, you can keep the people out of the church, but you can not keep the Church out of the people!
One of the things that I most miss about attending Mass is the power of the music and the singing to enhance the spirituality of the experience. I firmly believe in the adage, "One who sings, prays twice!" So I would like to share these two pieces of music with you, the first of which is a musical reflection on Sunday's Gospel, when Jesus raised Lazarus, his friend, from the dead. I don't remember if I ever heard of this trio, The Bishops, or of this song, Lazarus Come Forth, but I think that you will agree, it is surely a memorable performance! I think of the second song, How Can I Keep From Singing, as a Recessional Hymn. I've included the lyrics so that you can join in and sing along as our celebration concludes.
Please enjoy these musical reflections as we continue on our Lenten journey, and may "The Lord Be With You," my Sisters and Brothers!
Wishing everyone a blessed week,
Brother Dan

Catholic Mass at St. Raphael Church
Deacon Mark Rumley has graciously provided us with a link to view a Mass he recorded for this weekend with Fr. Paul Coughlin, pastor, Saint Raphael Catholic Church. Deacon Mark informed us that the recording includes a “Spiritual Eucharistic prayer." We are extremely grateful to Deacon Mark for many reasons but particularly his generous support of his time and his willingness to assist the Malden Catholic community.
