Mary Magdalene Church

~Weekly Update~

Mary Magdalene Church is an inclusive church in the Catholic tradition where people from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to the Lord’s table. We strive to live the values that Jesus taught, to honor and respect each individual and to share the joy of God’s unconditional love in our community and beyond.

~ A Message From Deacon Betty Jerabeck ~

Greetings!

First of all, I want to say how wonderful it is to be back home with all of you – this blessed, loving and ever evolving community. I truly missed you while away on vacation. Mexico was warm and sunny, so returning to Rochester weather was, as always, a bit of a shock! But the light, warmth and fellowship of Mary Magdalene outshine any climate. It is such a joy to be with you again.

One of the things I especially love about our community is our genuine openness and deep care for one another, and our unwavering love for all people. As our sign out by the sidewalk proclaims, we are an inclusive, catholic (universal) church that truly welcomes every person as God’s beloved child. This isn’t just a catchy slogan. Many churches display the word “inclusive” but here at Mary Magdalene we strive to live it every day. YOU are welcome. Truly. Deeply. Fully.

This Thursday, November 20th, I invite – truly, I urge – you to hold in your heart, our transgender and gender non-conforming siblings, who live among us, who strive simply to live in peace, and who worship with us as beloved members of Christ’s body. Each year, November 20th marks the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), a sacred moment to honor the lives of transgender people who have been lost to hatred, violence, and discrimination. It is a day to pause, to mourn, and to refuse to look away from the reality of ongoing harm. It is also a day to affirm – clearly and boldly – the dignity, worth, and beauty of transgender and gender non-conforming people in our community and throughout the world. As followers of Christ, we are called to love fiercely, to stand with the vulnerable, and to speak compassion and justice into the face of fear and injustice. Let us commit ourselves to this work with tenderness and courage.

The Rochester TDoR event, linked here is Thursday, 11/20, 6pm-8pm at MLK Park in Rochester. I will be at MMC parking lot, Thursday 5-5:30 and would be honored and happy to bring you with me to the program. I have room for 5 others in my car!

“I give you a new commandment: Love one another.

And you’re to love one another the way I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

With Love,

Sunday Morning Parking Reminder!! 🚗

We’re grateful for the vibrant Sunday mornings at MMC and for the generosity of our neighbors at First Church of Christ, Scientist (1104 Main St.), who graciously share their lot with us. To ensure safety and continued hospitality, please follow these parking guidelines:

  • MMC Lot Traffic Flow: All vehicles must enter to the right and follow a counter-clockwise pattern.
  • No Shoulder Parking: Please do not park on the driveway shoulder—this keeps the way clear for emergency vehicles.
  • Neighboring Lot Use: If parking at First Church of Christ, Scientist, please drive slowly, enter/exit with care, and park only in the back of their lot.
  • Street Parking: Be mindful of Village parking regulations when parking along the street.

Thank you for helping us be good neighbors and for making our shared space safe and welcoming for all!

Last Chance to Bid!!!

The Mary Magdalene Silent Auction will be ending Sunday, November 23rd after mass. The auction items are displayed in Fellowship Hall. There are some beautiful items displayed and available! Winners will be announced during Coffee Hour, and the items will be available to bring home with you!

Advent Tuesdays at 5:45 PM

Join us each Tuesday evening during Advent for a Mass that invites us into a different rhythm, less traditional than Sunday liturgy, yet deeply rooted in the spirit of the season.

Together, we’ll explore the playful parts of our waiting with joy, curiosity, and courage, inspired by the legacy of John Lewis and the hope that Advent stirs in us all. Following the December 2nd Mass, Kathy Welch and friends will provide an hour of musical reflection and a chance to sing along in hope for our world beginning at 6:45PM.

🧸 Prayer Buddies 🧸

The Knit, Purl & Sew Ministry is spreading comfort and joy by collecting new stuffed bears for nursing home residents. Each bear will carry a heartfelt pocket prayer, offering a gentle reminder that they are loved and remembered.

If you’d like to donate a small bear or other stuffed animal, please place it in the box marked “Prayer Buddies” located next to the prayer shawls. Let’s wrap our neighbors in love!
