We have public health rules in place across campus and in your Cyclone Home for a reason. If you choose not to follow them, you're putting our community at risk and jeopardizing our chances for successfully completing the fall semester. Here's a quick reminder of the rules:

You are REQUIRED to wear a
face covering:
  • In all common areas outside of your room/apartment, even if no one else is present.
  • Outside if you aren’t maintaining a six-foot distance from your friends.
  • Residence Halls: in bathrooms – when you’re not in the shower or brushing your teeth – even if no one is present.
You are NOT REQUIRED to wear a face covering:
  • Inside your room/apartment
  • Residence Halls: When you are in the shower or brushing your teeth
  • Residents are permitted one guest per resident at any one time in their room/apartment. Guests are only allowed with the permission of other roommates. See full policy here.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted unless another roommate is not spending the night. All overnight guests must be given permission by the other roommates in advance. See full policy here.
  • Large gatherings of students are not permitted per the policy stated above.

What happens if you don't follow the rules? Your contract may be cancelled.

If you're documented multiple times for not following the health and safety rules in place regarding face coverings and large gatherings and/or not complying with the directives of Department of Residence staff, you may have your housing contract cancelled. If your housing/dining contract is cancelled, you'll forfeit your prepayment and be charged the cancellation penalty for housing and dining (if you opt not to retain your meal plan).

Let's do this together and follow the rules designed to protect the health of our on-campus community!
Creating a welcoming community
We are all part of creating a welcoming community in our hallways, where we learn, where we work and when we enjoy conversations with friends. Respect, Purpose, Cooperation, Richness of Diversity, Freedom from Discrimination and Honest and Respectful Expression of Ideas are

By knowing and following the Principles of Community, we can start to learn more about ourselves and our neighbors. We're all here for a purpose and celebrate our differences. We also recognize we must strive to overcome historical and divisive biases in our society. We all have biases and can learn to challenge them. Hearing different perspectives, engaging in respectful dialogue and working together to achieve our individual and collective goals can all help create an amazing Cyclone community!
"Don't be Like Me" COVID-19 lessons
from a UNI student
Tyler Hospordarsky, a University of Northern Iowa senior, shares his story about contracting COVID-19 at a friend's birthday party inside a crowded Cedar Falls home.

“People should understand that it's not about me as a 21-year-old person fighting the virus for a few days and recovering,” Hospordarsky said. “It's about who I gave it to right after that. I could have transmitted the virus when I didn't even know I had it. And I felt normal for two days. So that's what's scary.”

Read Hospodarsky's full story here to find out more about his experience and the advice he wants you to know.
We're Here to Help!
Does something need fixed in your room or apartment? Our maintenance team is here to help! Just submit a service request here. The process is simple and make sure to be as detailed as possible with the request.

When our staff enters your room to complete the service request, you will be asked to put on a face covering. Depending on the work needed to be done, you may be asked to leave the space to protect your health, the health of our team and the health of our on-campus community.
Remember the Form!

Make sure to fill out your Room Inventory Condition form – that purple (halls) orange (apartments) piece of paper you received at move-in - and turn it in to your community desk. The information you provide means you won't pay for any damage that may already be in your room. If you’ve misplaced your form you can get a new one at your desk.
Get & Go Expands Menu

Get & Go has made it easier to get a hot lunch “on the run.” New this fall, a Get & Go meal features a hot entrée, two sides and a drink – all for just one meal swipe! Order through the GET Mobile app and pick it up at one of the two new convenient locations, Conversations or UDCC. A great option when a coffee and candy bar just won’t cut it.
Free Virtual Concert!
The Student Union Board (SUB) is sponsoring a virtual concert to kickoff the 2020 school year. Rising indie pop star Lennon Stella will perform next Thursday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. The 2020 Juno Award winning Breakthrough Artist of the Year starred on the TV show Nashville.
