Friday, May 11, Superheroes vs Pirates with the City Tree Falcons Band:
The City Tree Falcons Band is performing a set of upbeat songs followed by a showing of "Spiderman Homecoming"!
*Please Note: The theatrical version of this movie is rated PG-13, but we will be screening a version that has inappropriate content (crudeness/language/sexual innuendo) muted or removed.
Event details:
When: Friday, May 11, doors open at 6:30pm, performance begins at 7:00pm followed by the movie
Where: Roof playground
Food for sale: Pizza by the slice, popcorn, drinks, and other snacks will be for sale to support the band program.
What to bring: Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and invite your friends!
Attire: Students are allowed and encouraged to wear their best superhero or pirate gear, costumes included! (Please do NOT wear to school) 
Details regarding after school care and picking up students:
-After school hours are normal for all students not performing, 3:15-6:00pm, extra charges apply if additional care is needed. Students are NOT allowed to change in to their gear during afterschool, they may come to the event in their gear ONLY.
-School will CLOSE at 6:00pm and REOPEN at 6:30pm for the event - NO CARE is available during that time unless students are performing.
-Performing band members must be at City Tree by 5:30pm (or be picked up from after school) to set up for event. ONLY performing band members will be allowed to stay on campus with staff until the event begins.
-Parents must plan to attend the event with their child(ren). This is a family fun event!

May 14-18, Teacher Appreciation Week:
City Tree will be celebrating our fabulous teachers and staff the week of May 14-18 for Teacher Appreciation Week! Some of you may realize that this is not the "official" week, we postponed it due to MAP testing. The PTO has planned a special week for City Tree's staff!
Monday 5/14-Friday 5/18 - Week Long Activities
Teacher Thank You Card Station: Students and parents, please stop by the card making station by the school entrance to write your teacher and staff a note! Notes can be written through Friday morning and will be distributed Friday during the school day.
Guess the Teacher Activity: For a $1 guess the teacher or staff member based on their baby picture! Winner gets a prize at the end of the week. Proceeds go toward end of the year activities that Student Council will be sponsoring.

Tuesday, 5/15 Fruit Day: Edible or drinkable, bring your teacher an edible fruit or fruit drink! Note: If you choose to bring alcohol as a gift, please leave it in the front office with teacher's name.
Corrected! Wednesday, 5/16 Treats/Sweets Day & PTO Hosted Breakfast: Treat your teacher to their favorite candy, snack, or cookies. PTO will also be hosting a staff breakfast!
Thursday, 5/17 Hobby/Interest/Your Choice Day: Shower your teacher with a gift card or items associated with their favorite hobbies, interests, OR choose to surprise them with something of your choice!

Yearbooks are for sale while supplies last! Cost is $25 through Tuesday, May 29. Make sure you order yours today because price increases to $30 beginning Wednesday, May 30! Order forms were distributed to parent files last week. Submit order form and payment to the mailbox labeled Yearbook.

Save the date! You are all invited to join us for an evening full of singing, dancing, and art!
-K-8 Spring Show, 4:00pm in the Sanctuary
-Join us after the program for dinner and the K-8 student art show in the Dining Room
 
Clearing All School Accounts:
As we draw closer to the end of the school year, now is the time to make sure your accounts are current. Be on the lookout for notices in parent files soon regarding any of these items:
-Past due bills including: Tuition, past due emergency lunch payments and extra care fees, etc. 
-Overdue library books returned or lost book fine paid
-Borrowed uniform items returned to office
-Payment of reeds used for band instruments
Remember: Students who have accounts that are past due and/or materials, borrowed clothes, etc. still outstanding, will not be able to participate in end of the year events.

Friday, May 11, Preschool Mother's Day Tea:
Preschool moms, please join us on Friday, May 11 at 3:00pm for tea in the Dining Room! Go directly to the Dining Room and the children will join you at 3:15. Please let your child's teacher know if you are unable to attend, or send a "Special Someone" in your place so your child can be paired with a friend.

Band attire: Band students are allowed and encouraged to wear their best superhero or pirate gear, costumes are okay but not required. If students do not have any themed gear, student must wear an all-black outfit. Mrs. Irwig will give them an opportunity to change prior to the performance.
IMPORTANT Supervision & Pick-up Information for Band Parents:
Student supervision is NOT available after the band performance ends (approximately 7:20). We hope all band parents are able to attend this fun family event! If you are not able to come, please make arrangements in advance with another parent to pick up your child at 7:20pm, or to be responsible for your child at the conclusion of the band performance and escort them off campus at the conclusion of the movie time. Please make sure your child knows who to report to after the band performance. Thanks for your help with these details as we look to make the evening as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Monday, May 14, Falcons Jazz Band Disneyland Workshop Trip:
The City Tree Falcons Jazz Band will be visiting Disneyland to participate in a choreography workshop on Monday, May 14! Students who are not in jazz band are expected to attend school on May 14. This is a regular school day for grades 5-8 students who are NOT in jazz band.
Who: Jazz band students in grades 5-8. Remember to sign the blue permission slip on your child's clipboard. Students will not be allowed on the bus without your signed permission! 
Departure: Students, staff, and chaperones will meet outside of City Tree at 5:45am to load up on the bus on 3rd. Ave & Elm St. We leave PROPMTLY at 6:00am!
Return time: Bus leaves Disneyland at 9:00pm with an estimated return time of 11:00pm. YOU MUST BE ON TIME to pick up your child - Please be considerate of our staff who works on Tuesday, May 15. It is EXTREMELY important that you arrive EARLY or ON TIME! 
Trip Cost: Jazz Band fees included the amount for this workshop and park entry 
Food: Students are welcome to bring a sack lunch or must bring money for meals and snacks. Additional spending money is optional.
Attire:
Comfortable sports shorts (NO leggings)
Comfortable tennis/athletic shoes
5th Gr: White t-shirt
Middle School: Gray, Owl t-shirt
A special sweatshirt provided by the band program!
Assigned Group: Students must stay with their assigned chaperones at all times! Students may be officially picked up by their parents or another parent with permission AFTER the workshop.
Electronic Devices: Cell phones may be brought only for communication purpose. Students are responsible for electronic devices they choose to bring. All devices must be off while the workshop takes place.
Note: Only assigned chaperones and staff will be allowed to go backstage with students.

FPC Youth Group invites all students in grade 6-8 to Middle School Madness for a night of fun and fellowship! 5th grade students are invited to join as they prepare to transition in to Middle School next school year! 
When: Friday, May 18 from 6:00-8:00pm
Where: Youth Room, Room 307, drop-off & Pick-up from 4th Ave. entrance
Cost: $5 for food and drink

Wednesday, June 6, Grades 1 & 2 Sea World Field Trip: 
The 1st & 2nd graders will be visiting Sea World for a science education field trip! Trip details:
Departure time: 9:15am
Return time: about 1:30pm
Cost: $9.00 per person (both students and chaperones). Amount is due Wednesday, May 30 to teacher.
Students must bring: Sack lunch and booster seats for car pooling
Attire: School uniform and comfortable walking shoes
Blue Permission Slip: Remember to sign the form on your child's clipboard. Sign the permission form if you are available to drive, too!

Monday, May 21, 8th Grade Tile Making Field Trip:   
As a celebration and commemoration of their time here at City Tree, 8th grade students will visit an art studio in Pacific Beach from 10:40-1:15pm on Monday, May 21. During this visit they will design a unique, one of a kind tile to add to our mosaic on the roof. There is no cost for this field trip, but please sign permission on your child's clipboard.

Calling 6th & 7th Grade Families, Graduation Help Needed:
Our 8th grade graduates and their families deserve a great day of celebration, and you can help! Traditionally our 6th and 7th grade families assist with our graduation reception preparations, set-up, and clean-up.  Click here for more information on how you can help, and please sign up on your child's clipboard by Friday, May 25 if you can assist. City Tree Falcons Jazz Band had an incredible opportunity to perform at SeaWorld San Diego this past weekend! Students showed off their hard work and played a variety of songs they have been practicing. They did a wonderful job representing our school in our community!
