Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

Calling to End Required Use of ArriveCAN for Northern Border Travel

I’m calling on the Canadian government to end its required use of the ArriveCAN app that has disrupted Northern Border travel and damaged cross-border tourism and commerce. Currently, the Canadian government requires mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app for anyone seeking to enter the country. This requirement disincentivizes travel, harms the flow of commerce, and burdens travelers with the submission of private health information. Canada must end this app’s harmful impacts on our border communities and immediately halt its required use for the continued restoration of cross-border travel.

Announcing $1 Million for North Country Community College Nursing Labs

I am proud to announce that, following my advocacy, $1 million of taxpayer dollars will return to Essex and Franklin Counties to update three nursing labs. I will always bring the concerns of New York’s 21st District to the highest levels, which is why I worked throughout the appropriations process to include this priority for our communities. Now, this critical funding will strengthen the skillset of our local healthcare professionals and work to increase the pipeline of well-prepared nurses to our rural hospitals and healthcare providers.

Supporting the Future of Advanced Manufacturing in New York State

I’m proud to have a long record of supporting and delivering critical investments for North Country workforce development in the greater Plattsburgh region. I was proud to work with the North Country Workforce Development Board to provide 40 Clinton Community College students with scholarships to become machinists and technicians.

These full tuition scholarships will invest in forty students in our district to equip and prepare them for their vocations. Thanks to this critical partnership, the future of advanced manufacturing in Upstate New York and the North Country looks bright.

Visiting Condo Pharmacy in Plattsburgh to Discuss Drug Pricing

On Wednesday, I visited Condo Pharmacy in Plattsburgh to address concerns of pharmacies working to meet local healthcare needs. I am committed to driving down the cost of prescription drugs for families in Upstate New York and the North Country, and our local pharmacies play an important role in this. I am proud to support the Lower Costs, More Cures Act, a package of over 40 bipartisan provisions to lower out-of-pocket spending, ensure new medicines and cures are not heavily taxed, strengthen transparency and accountability, and champion competition in the medical community. I will continue to work to make prescription drugs more affordable and ensure our families and especially our seniors have access to the medications they need.

Touring Underground Railroad Historical Association Museum

New York’s 21st District is home to a rich history, and I am proud to have delivered over $4 million to support museums in our district. I was incredibly thankful for the impressive tour of the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association Museum and learn about its work to share the legacy of the North Country and preserve its history.

As the museum works to expand ways to tell the stories of freedom seekers and abolitionists and preserve this history, I look forward to continue advocating for this museum’s important work.

Conducting Oversight on FBI Director Wray’s Use of Government Aircraft for Personal Travel

The FBI’s abuse of power at the highest levels should concern every American. I’m conducting critical oversight on FBI Director Wray’s inappropriate use of government aircraft for personal vacation travel as an illegal use of taxpayer funds. Following reports that Wray left a Senate hearing early to fly on an FBI aircraft for a personal vacation in Saranac Lake, despite requests from Ranking Member Grassley, you refused to remain at the hearing for an additional 21 minutes for remaining members to finish asking their questions and conduct oversight of the FBI.

Taxpayer funds should not be funding FBI Director Wray’s vacation trips, and the FBI can no longer get away with making its own rules. Any abuse of taxpayer funds by FBI Director Wray for personal travel must be uncovered.
