Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

Continuing Oversight on the FBI’s Investigation of the Schoharie Limo Crash

I am proud to be the only member of Congress to publicly question Director Wray on the FBI’s involvement in the tragic Schoharie limo crash that took 20 innocent lives. Following my advocacy, the FBI announced it will open an investigation into the Schoharie limo crash.

This week, I sent an oversight letter to the FBI regarding this investigation and requested a timeline for the FBI’s review, a copy of the completed review, and any findings and recommendations.

This tragic crash should never have happened. It devastated a community and too many families are left with questions. I am committed to sustained oversight to ensure all questions and concerns are answered and any necessary reforms are implemented.

Introducing the Great Lakes Restoration Semipostal Stamp Act

This week, I joined my colleagues in cosponsoring the bipartisan Great Lakes Restoration Semipostal Stamp Act to strengthen efforts to protect the Great Lakes ecosystem and the St. Lawrence River.

The health of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River is essential to our North Country ecosystem and its communities. I am proud to support this legislation and provide another avenue to assist our Great Lakes and river communities in the North Country clean up their drinking water systems, restore fish and wildlife habitats, and combat invasive species. I look forward to continuing to working to restore and protect the Great Lakes and its surrounding ecosystems.

Securing Over $1.2 Million to Support Rural Students

This week, I announced that I secured $1,237,500 for CFES Brilliant Pathways in Essex County through the Department of Education’s Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Program. This funding will be used to support 4,000 high school students in the North County by providing access to complete postsecondary education with pathways into careers in the region.

Our rural students face unique challenges, which is why I am proud to secure this critical support to keep them on track for success after graduation. Now, these taxpayer dollars will return to our district to provide North Country communities the necessary resources to adopt innovative approaches that fully equip our students with the skills to succeed.

I am proud to lead this important initiative, so our North Country students have greater opportunities to enroll in college, receive their degree, and engage in the workforce.

Standing Up for Second Amendment Rights

I am proud to stand up for the Second Amendment rights of Upstate New York and the North Country against attempts to shred the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans and sponsor commonsense legislation to promote gun training and safety, mental health, and better equip our schools and School Resource Officers.

Introducing Commonsense Legislation to Promote Gun Safety and Training

This week, I introduced commonsense legislation to promote gun training and safety as Democrats rushed to push their radical gun control agenda. My bill, the Firearm Proficiency and Training Act will empower gun owners by incentivizing them through a tax credit to purchase gun safety and storage equipment as well as training and safety courses. Congress should enable all Americans to safely exercise their Second Amendment rights, rather than infringe upon the Constitutional rights of law-abiding American citizens.

Learn more about my legislation here.

Introducing School Safety and Mental Health Legislation

This week, I joined my colleagues in introducing the Secure Every School and Protect our Nation’s Children Act to help prevent school violence by equipping schools with better security and training to keep campuses safe and provide mental health resources to avoid tragedy.

This legislation builds on the STOP School Violence Act signed into law in 2018 to fund $1 billion for School Resource Officers, $1 billion for mental health guidance counselors, and $5 billion for hardening schools, active shooter training, and training for law enforcement, school officials, and students to intervene before a student reaches a breaking point. The $7 billion legislation is paid for with already approved, yet unused COVID-19 funds.

These fundamental improvements will prevent school violence before tragedy strikes. I will continue to engage with local law enforcement departments, teachers, and school superintendents on more possible solutions to ensure safe environments for our students.

Standing Up Against Democrats’ Mandates Shredding the Constitution

This week, House Democrats brought to the floor H.R. 7910, legislation that shreds the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans with no effect on deterring criminals who do not follow the law when obtaining firearms.

I have been proud to work in Congress to introduce legislation that incentivizes gun safety and training and increase School Resource Officers in schools, and I have voted in support of the bipartisan FIX NICS Act, signed into law by President Trump, which improved the National Instant Background Check System. Additionally, I have voted to provide $1 billion in federal funds to support hardening schools and increase the number of School Resource Officers.

As Far-Left Democrats double down on their unconstitutional agenda that shreds our Second Amendment rights, I will continue to stand up for the Constitution and push for solutions, including advocating for increased mental health resources across the country.

This Week in Washington

I am committed to setting the record straight by pushing back against Speaker Pelosi’ illegitimate, political witch-hunt. This committee is focused on political theatre, not finding out about the lack of security at the Capitol. It fails to address the numerous crises Americans are suffering from due to Far-Left policies.

Instead of a partisan spectacle, I am focused on the important issues facing every family in Upstate New York and the North Country. Republicans are ready to deliver an agenda for every family to unleash American energy, lower food prices for consumers, and squash rising inflation.

I joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business to discuss how Democrats are desperately attempting to change the narrative in an unprecedent way from the crises they have created:
