DC CFAR Investigators Awarded NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements

Please join us in congratulating the following DC CFAR Investigators on the receipt of five NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements! The first three supplements were in support of the National Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative. These initiatives are led by Dr. Lisa Bowleg (GW) on "Addressing Intersectional and Social-Structural Barriers to Ending the HIV Epidemic in Black Sexual Minority Men and Black Heterosexual Women", Dr. Marjorie Gondré-Lewis (HU) on "Implementing Brain Health Assessment into the HIV Care Continuum in Washington DC" and Dr. Carlos Rodríguez-Díaz on "An intersectionality-based policy analysis of social determinants of HIV in Puerto Rico". The fourth supplement was awarded to Dr. Anne Monroe (GW) on "Improving Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing (PIP) for Aging People with HIV: An Individualized Approach to be Scaled City-Wide". The fifth supplement focused on the request for equipment was awarded to Dr. Natalia Soriano-Sarabia (GW) entitled "Automated Cell Isolation using the RoboSepTM System and Muse Cell Analyzer for HIV Cure Studies".

Join the SBS Core HIV at 40: Looking Back and Moving Forward

Please join the DC CFAR Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Core for a seminar entitled "HIV at 40: Looking Back and Moving Forward" on Wednesday, September 22 from 1:00-2:00 pm ET. This seminar will feature a panel discussion on how COVID is impacting the present, and future of research and care in the field. SBS core Associate Director Dr. Nina Yamanis (AU) will moderate the discussion of distinguished panelists including Dr. Rupali Doshi (GW and DC Health), Ms. Marcia Ellis (CFAR CPC), and Dr. Audrey Pettifor (UNC). Register to Join the DC CFAR Developmental Core Virtual Grant Writing Workshop!

Are you a DC CFAR member planning on submitting an application for the DC CFAR Pilot Awards Program this cycle or a grant to NIH? Register to join the DC CFAR Developmental Core Virtual Grant Workshop on Thursday, September 23 and Friday, September 24 via Zoom. This day and a half virtual workshop will be led by the Grant Training Center to assist you with writing and designing competitive NIH proposals. The agenda includes grant writing concepts, developing an application, writing specific aims, the review process, resubmissions, and more. Please let us know if you would like to attend the grant writing workshop by registering at the link below. Space is limited and you will receive a confirmation and additional information about the workshop if we are able to accommodate you. Priority will be given to DC CFAR early stage investigators, DC CFAR Community Partnership Council members, and investigators who plan to apply for a DC CFAR pilot award this cycle.

The Brown University Community and Clinical Research Training (CCRT) Program is accepting applications, the objective of this program is to train the next generation of researchers to end the HIV epidemic and to conduct research related to reducing racial disparities in HIV outcomes. Applications are due October 1.
The Journal of the International AIDS Society (JIAS) is releasing a special issue on "Getting to the Heart of Stigma", submissions are due September 22.
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Substance Use and
Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and
Quality (CBHSQ) is an epidemiologist responsible for carrying out a full range of complex epidemiologic and surveillance activities for CBHSQ.
The Hopelab is a social innovation lab committed to supporting and improving the health and happiness of young people through the co-creation and distribution of behavior-change tech. The Head of Research supports Hopelab’s mission by serving as an expert in mental health, well-being, and positive development of adolescents and emerging adults.
The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the National LGBTQ Institute on IPV in partnership with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence is hosting a four-part institute for gender-based violence practitioners and researchers who engage in community-based participatory research to learn new methods, share skills, and create meaningful collaborations.
NIH is requesting information from stakeholders on the utility and useability of sample language developed for use in informed consent documents for data and biospecimen sharing. Response to this Notice is voluntary. The deadline for responses is September 29, 2021.
