Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

House Republicans’ Commitment to America

In the face of one-party Democrat rule in Washington and Albany that has created crisis after crisis for hardworking families, I led my colleagues in unveiling House Republican’s Commitment to America.

I am committed to an economy that is strong! House Republicans will fight inflation and lower the cost of living, reduce gas prices, make America energy independent, and strengthen our supply chain.

I am committed to a nation that is safe! House Republicans will secure the southern border, reduce crime, stop illicit fentanyl, and defend our national security. I am committed to a future that is built on freedom! House Republicans will ensure students can succeed, give parents a voice, improve care and health for all Americans, and confront Big Tech.

I am committed to a government that is accountable! House Republicans will conduct critical oversight on the Biden Administration, preserve our Constitutional freedoms, and restore faith in free and fair elections.

Demanding Accountability on Nursing Home Deaths for New York Families

This week, I led the charge for transparency and accountability for Corrupt Cuomo’s criminal nursing home order that resulted in the deaths of over 15,000 New York seniors. Because of my leadership on this issue, I was asked to join the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus hearing on the impact of the coronavirus in nursing homes. I will continue to call out Hochul for her failure to investigate Cuomo’s deadly nursing home order. Hochul promised nursing home family members that they would have a fulsome investigation, and she failed on that promise. We will have accountability and answers. Subpoenas are coming for Kathy Hochul, who had a seat at the table in Cuomo’s Administration and now fails to respond to my oversight or open an investigation into this deadly order. I will fight for answers for all the New York families who needlessly lost loved ones.

Urging Canada and U.S. to Drop Vaccine Mandate and ArriveCAN App Requirement

I am calling on both Canada and the United States to drop all remaining restrictions on Northern Border travel. President Joe Biden admitted this week that the pandemic is over, and it is past time for his Northern Border policies to reflect that. I have been calling for an end to these restrictions for months, including the mandatory use of ArriveCAN that is imposing unnecessary wait times and disincentivizing travel and tourism. For too long, our Northern Border communities have suffered because of forced closure and burdensome travel regulations, which have been devastating to small businesses in North Country communities. I will continue to lead the charge to end all vaccine mandates and regulations that impede Northern Border travel, so our North Country communities, tourism, and commerce can be fully restored.

Securing over $700,000 for SUNY Plattsburgh

Following my advocacy, SUNY Plattsburgh has been granted a five-year renewal to continue its Plattsburgh Upward Bound Program and will receive $729,955 to support North Country students in the 2022-2023 school year. SUNY Plattsburgh was excluded from receiving the grant renewal in May due to an error by the Biden Administration. After the Biden Administration mistakenly excluded this program from receiving a five-year grant renewal, my office brought their concerns to the highest levels and secured these critical dollars to prepare our local students for higher education through the Upward Bound Program. Now, these taxpayer dollars will return to our district to help set our students on a path to success and good-paying jobs.

Standing up for Freedom of Speech on College Campuses

This week, I introduced the Restoring Academic Freedom on Campus Act to prevent colleges from stifling the free expression of diverse viewpoints and forcing ideological conformity through the use of political litmus tests. This bill will prevent institutions of higher education from using any partisan or ideological beliefs as part of the hiring, promotion, or selection process. Intolerant political monoculture has invaded our own SUNY system, and this puts ideological conformity above preparing students for life outside an academic bubble. I will continue standing up for freedom of speech and freedom of thought on college and university campuses.

Announcing DoD Review of Woke Policies

Following my advocacy, the DoD is launching a review of its Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer's racist, woke posts. The Department of Defense must realign their priorities away from woke ideologies and back to strengthening our national defense. Our military’s focus should be keeping our nation safe, and I am committed to ensuring our service members are fully equipped to defend our country from the host of threats we face around the world. Right now, as the Pentagon fails to fill our military ranks and our adversaries around the world rapidly increase their capabilities, the Department of Defense has routinely prioritized adhering to woke ideologies instead of strengthening our national defense. This is shameful and an insult to the brave men and women who selflessly serve our nation. I am committed to continuing to work to restore Americans’ trust in our military by providing our service members with the resources needed to win our nation’s wars and support their families.
