I was honored for the opportunity to commemorate the life of United States Army Private First Class Howard Richard “Dick” Neahr at the Saratoga Deceased Veterans Remembrance Ceremony this week. Dick served in World War II and, even after he was shot in the leg during the Battle of Bulge, he bravely returned to the battlefield just eight weeks later to fight to preserve the freedom of our nation. It comes as no surprise that he was well-decorated for his many actions of bravery and was awarded with some of the military’s highest honors, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
I presented Dick’s family with the medals he earned during his valiant service, as well as a Congressional Record recognizing his legacy of service and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor. I will continue to honor the service of NY-21’s many veterans and work to ensure that they receive the benefits they have earned, the education they desire, and the jobs and support they need.
