Board of Directors and Founder's Luncheon:

HAPPY FRIDAY!

What an incredible day today has been! Nine of our amazing Board Members joined us in person and three online for our quarterly Board of Directors meeting, including our newest board members Adith Kumar Thummalapalli, Dina Wasmer, and Dr. Melvin Murphy. Following the Board Meeting, we held our 40th anniversary Founder's Luncheon, which was a resounding success, bringing together visionary minds and trailblazers in person-centered, community-based care for children living with complex medical needs. Special thanks to Nancy Bond for suggesting the luncheon and for helping us track down the founders and board members from the early days and to Renee Dain and Heidi Falter for organizing today's event, as well as Jen Sears and Khuzaima Pirbhai (KP) who helped Heidi with room set up.

Today's event provided a unique opportunity for our founders, to reflect on the milestones achieved and the enduring impact of their collective efforts. We were delighted to have among our special guests, Karen-Ann Lichtenstein, retired President and CEO, from 1994-2019 (with The Center 35 years in total) and Dr. Ed Feinberg, the first Chairman of the Board of Directors, from 1983-1987. Mr. Feinberg recalled the initial meeting that led to the launch of The Coordinating Center and reminisced about the early successes.

Dr. Feinberg stated, "While the Board could define direction and recommend policies, the success of The Coordinating Center in its first ten years was largely due to the magnificent leadership of Joanna KaufmanShe charmingly and relentlessly formed relationships with the many individuals and organizations that were needed to be part of our ever-expanding coalition. She worked with the state's Medicaid office to advocate for a Medicaid waiver. She assisted staff in the technical provision of care but was also mindful of the emotional impact of working with children and families who were often in crisis. Joanna was followed by Karen Ann Lichtenstein, whose outstanding leadership was characterized by tireless effort, an innovative spirit and the careful expansion of work of The Coordinating to a breadth of service and expansion of client base that could never have been envisioned in those founding years."

It was great seeing and speaking with many of you on Wednesday during our Monthly Cup of Joe. The topic of how you can lean into peace during the month of December, we discussed the pressures that come this month. It was refreshing to hear how you organize and prepare. Remember to never worry alone, and make sure to reach out for assistance. We also talked about Anticipatory Coping when being with family and friends. Having a plan can certainly make this time of year easier. You are welcome to email me and let me know how it went!
