2022 Butterfly Count (All ages IN-PERSON)
Every year butterfly experts across the country hit the meadows, swamps and forests to count our beautiful butterflies. The July butterfly count has taken place and collected data for forty years. Previous count tallies indicate which butterflies are becoming more common, declining in numbers or are showing up in places we didn’t expect to find them. The 2022 butterfly count, and the preceding pollinator overview, features noted local expert Victor DeMasi and his team of experienced spotters.

What Did You Do to My Book?!
See how far eight local artists go to show what can happen to your book when (or if) it gets in their hands. On display @ the MTL now through the end of July - 47 works by 8 book artists curated by Chris Perry. Some of the artists utilize old books that they have repurposed, and others make new books with new materials, sometimes materials that have nothing to do with traditional bookmaking.

Staff Picks
Mary recommends: The Martian by Andy Weir
Mary says: Astronaut Mark Watney, accidentally left behind on Mars, is determined to survive until he is rescued. (Get going, NASA, he’s alive!) Mark records his efforts in a daily journal, revealing not only his awesome resourcefulness as a botanist and engineer, but also his wry sense of humor. An adult book with loads of teen appeal, this is a thriller full of laugh-out-loud jokes grounded in specific scientific detail. LOTS more fun than the movie!
