Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

Leading the Charge for Action on the Baby Formula Crisis

After hearing from parents and grandparents in a panic because they are unable to find baby formula, I am leading the charge on demanding answers and sent a letter to the Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the nationwide baby formula shortage that has reached a crisis level. I called on the agency to provide a clear timeline for when baby formula inventory is expected to be sufficiently restocked as well as a long-term plan to minimize supply chain disruptions for baby formula.

The baby formula shortage is yet another example of how this administration’s supply chain crisis is harming working families. As a new mom myself, I know the stress this is causing in so many households.

I have been sounding the alarm on this for months. In February, I sent a letter calling on the FDA to address safety concerns regarding baby formula following a recall of powdered formulas after reports of related illness in infants. This should have been a wakeup call, but unsurprisingly, I received no substantive response.

I joined Fox and Friends this week with my colleague Ashley Hinson to discuss this baby formula crisis. As mothers in Congress, we are committed to getting answers for hardworking families.

I’m continuing to bring the concerns of parents to the highest levels by demanding answers from Biden’s FDA to address this crisis. This can never happen again and needs to be addressed.

Holding the Biden Administration Accountable

On Thursday, I led my colleagues in calling on the Biden administration to take action to address the baby formula shortage. I cannot think of a more harrowing, panicked crisis for parents to face than desperately trying to find food and formula for their newborn babies. I have been leading this charge since February, and I will continue to push for results on behalf of families.

Congratulating Fort Drum’s Top Recognition for Readiness by the U.S. Army

Fort Drum has been named the best military installation for readiness by the U.S. Army. As the chief advocate for Fort Drum in Congress, I am proud to deliver funds every year to enhance its military readiness.

Fort Drum plays a critical role in our nation’s defense and is home of the 10th Mountain Division, the most deployed Army division since 9/11, and is deserving of this recognition. The top readiness award is a significant achievement and speaks to the tireless efforts of Fort Drum.

Announcing Air Service Will Continue at Ogdensburg, Plattsburgh

I am proud to announce that Essential Air Service will continue at the Plattsburgh and Ogdensburg airports.

I advocate for critical air service programs every year to provide our North Country families with convenient and more accessible travel, as well as attract tourists to our region. This grant funding will be used to secure nonstop, roundtrip flights from Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS) and Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) through public charter service provided by Contour Airlines.

I will continue to work to keep and expand this critical program throughout communities in New York’s 21st District.

Providing Oversight into New York’s Implementation of CRT with Federal Funds

This week, I sent a letter to New York Education Commissioner Betty Rosa demanding a complete accounting of how her department is using federal COVID-19 dollars to implement Critical Race Theory in New York schools. I previously sounded the alarm on this misuse of funds, and now I am demanding answers.

In the oversight letter, I pointed out how the New York State Education Department using taxpayer dollars to promote Critical Race Theory under the guise of Social and Emotional Learning and Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education. This radical CRT disguised as “anti-racism” advocates for the discriminatory treatment of Americans on the basis of race. Shrouding the racist and divisive ideology of Critical Race Theory with vague and seemingly innocuous terminology does not diminish the harm it poses to students. I will continue to stand up for what our students are taught in the classroom.

This Week in Washington

Introducing the WWII Nurses Congressional Gold Medal Act

This week, I introduced bipartisan legislation to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the brave women who served in World War II as members of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.

Nurses during World War II put their lives on the line for our nation and performed essential combat services to save others. Their significant contributions to the United States’ success in World War II deserve to be remembered. I am proud to recognize the service and sacrifice of these brave nurses and ensure they are properly recognized for their service to our nation.

Introducing Legislation to Identify War Crimes and Prevent Atrocities

This week, I introduced the bipartisan Geospatial Support for Atrocity Accountability Act that will secure intelligence to identify, prevent, and respond to atrocities and preserve evidence related to war crimes, both past and present.

This important bill will leverage the United States’ intelligence capabilities to send a strong message to perpetrators of war crimes that we will expose their crimes and hold them accountable.

The horrors of war are devastating to civilian populations. The United States has the geospatial intelligence technology to identify and prevent war crimes from happening now and hold war criminals accountable for past atrocities. Now, we must provide the State Department with the intelligence products to respond to atrocities and account for missing persons across the world.
