This Memorial Day weekend, join me in paying tribute to all of America’s fallen heroes and recognizing their courage and sacrifice by celebrating the freedoms they fought and died for to protect.

Our nation has an incredible tradition of service, in which residents of New York’s 21st District proudly share. From the Battles of Saratoga and Ticonderoga that turned the tide of the Revolutionary War to the home to Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, the most deployed Army division since 9/11, our region has an enduring legacy of brave Americans who have selflessly answered the call to serve for generations. As we gather with friends and family on Memorial Day, we honor our men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

This Memorial Day weekend, join me at local community events to honor those who have laid down their lives for our freedom, pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, support our veterans and military families, and continue to pray for those who serve in harm’s way. We must never forget that America is only the land of the free, because of the brave.

I join New York’s 21st District in mourning the horrific loss of precious, innocent lives in Uvalde, Texas. My heart absolutely shatters for the families suffering unimaginable heartbreak and for the entire community. Join me in praying for Uvalde.

In Congress, I have worked to increase School Resource Officers in schools in our district and around the country. I have also supported the bipartisan FIX NICS Act signed into law which ensures mental health records sharing. We need to continue to expand mental health resources in our schools and communities.

This week, I was proud to announce that Reese Dow, an 11th grader at Massena Central High School, is the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for New York’s 21st District.

The North Country is home to many talented young artists, and Reese’s piece demonstrates incredible skill and mastery of her craft. Now, her piece entitled “Altered” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year and share the creativity of our district with our nation and highlight Reese’s accomplishments!

This week, I had a call with the New York Rural Letter Carrier’s Union to discuss my work to support the critical work of our postal workers.

When the Town of Wells’ post office was closed last year, I worked closely with local and state leaders to resolve this issue for families in Hamilton County. Following my direct advocacy to USPS, a viable temporary post office was opened in the Town of Wells.

I will always work to ensure our NY-21 communities have access to essential mail service! 

Nearly $3 million in taxpayer dollars will be returned to our district to support the Adirondack Community Action Programs’ Head Start program in Elizabethtown. This significant funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Head Start will create educational opportunities for our North Country children and set them up for success by preparing them for the classroom and beyond.

This week, I announced over $900,000 in taxpayer dollars will return to our district to support SUNY Plattsburgh and Adirondack Community College as they equip the next generation of students for postsecondary success. The Upward Bound program provides critical support for students preparing for higher education, and this funding will go a long way to help students in our district succeed.

The program serves high school students from low-income families and families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and supports participants with academic tutoring, postsecondary education counseling, financial aid information, and other support in their preparation for college entrance. 

This week, I announced Warren County’s Head Start Program will receive a $1,543,304 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families.

This significant amount of taxpayer dollars will be returned to our district to support the Head Start program of Warren County, which serves many families in our district by providing comprehensive early childhood education and development services to promote school readiness for low-income children.
