Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.
The contributions of seniors are incredibly valuable to the fabric of our communities in Upstate New York and the North Country. I am proud to sponsor the bipartisan Golden-preneurship Act (H.R. 7552) to equip older entrepreneurs with the tools they need to grow their business, create jobs, and bring capital to communities around the country.

Coupled with seniors’ experience, this legislation will help create more lasting businesses and strengthen our communities, carrying on the hard work and legacy of our seniors.
Following my advocacy and laying the groundwork for subpoenas, the FBI will open an investigation into the tragic Schoharie limo crash that senselessly took 20 lives in 2018. As the only member of Congress to publicly question FBI Director Chris Wray regarding the FBI’s role in the tragedy of the Schoharie limo crash, I believe this investigation is long overdue.

This tragedy never should have happened, and this investigation must happen quickly and thoroughly in order to provide for the devastated families and communities answers that they have been waiting years for. I will continue to hold the FBI accountable and demand transparency on behalf of Upstate New York.
According to Fort Drum’s 2021 economic impact statement, Fort Drum had a nearly $2 billion impact on the area and was responsible for, or supported, nearly one-fourth of all jobs in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties.

This shows the critical role Fort plays for the North Country, which is why, as the chief advocate for Fort Drum in Congress, I fight to deliver millions of dollars each year to support its important work. I look forward to continuing to deliver results for Fort Drum, our military families, and New York’s 21st District that create this kind of lasting impact.
This week, I learned that New York, along with 12 other states, is using federal COVID funds to implement Critical Race Theory in schools. It is absolutely inappropriate and unacceptable that New York is using COVID funds to force the radical and racist Critical Race Theory agenda on our children. New York parents are rightfully outraged, and I will continue to stand up for students and parents against this dangerous, Far-Left agenda.

As a senior member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, I will ensure we conduct vigorous oversight of this egregious misuse of taxpayer funds.

My Work to Secure the Border
On Thursday, I took the House floor to call on House Democrats to join Republicans in taking legislative action to combat the crisis on the southern border and immediately consider the PAUSE Act of 2021 (H.R. 471) to ensure Title 42 stays in place.

This legislation would provide for stringent enforcement of Title 42, a public health order which allows illegal immigrants to be quickly expelled. It would also prohibit the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Homeland Security from weakening Title 42’s implementation.

Every member of Congress needs to step up and secure the border. But, my colleagues across the aisle have had over a year to put forth any bill to do so. They have failed to put forth any single bill to address this border crisis.

It is past time for every member of Congress to step up and do their job. House Republicans are unified. We stand behind the PAUSE act to make sure Title 42 remains in place.
I joined Steve Bannon’s War Room to discuss my trip to the southern border where I saw firsthand the severity of Joe Biden’s border crisis. I was able to publicly recognize the tragic loss of Texas National Guardsman Spc. Bishop Evans along with the toll that Biden’s worsening border crisis has had on border communities and law enforcement.

This Week in Washington
Even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, I have been clear that the United States should support our Ukrainian partners with the military weapons and equipment they need. This week, I advanced the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, legislation to ensure that Ukrainian forces have the resources they need to deter and defend against Russian aggression.

This bill would authorize the President to enter into lend-lease agreements directly with Ukraine and provide military equipment necessary to defend against Russian aggression. In some cases, like the loan of equipment, the United States could eventually retain the use of this equipment in the end.

My colleagues and I are sending a clear message that the United States stands with Ukraine and that we will uphold our commitments to them as they continue the fight against Vladimir Putin’s bloodthirsty aggression.
This week, I voted to advance the Stop Iranian Drones Act (H.R. 6089), legislation I cosponsored that would prevent Iran and Iranian-aligned groups from acquiring unmanned combat drones that can be used in attacks against the United States or our partners.

Iran is the world’s leading exporter of terrorism, and the world should know the United States will use every tool at its disposal to cut off Iran’s access to deadly weapons.

Currently, under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, the President is required to impose sanctions on any person determined to knowingly contribute to the supply, sale, or transfer of weapons and materials to or from Iran. This legislation would add drones, including unmanned combat aerial vehicles and combat aircraft, to this list of weapons and materials.

Announcements and Events
This week, I met with the Mohawk Valley Water Authority about continued investment in water infrastructure and my results securing federal funding for Herkimer County.
On President Ulysses S. Grant’s 200th birthday this week, my staff attended a National Historic Landmark plaque unveiling at Grant Cottage. President Grant was one of the most influential military commanders in our nation’s history and chose to call what is now known as Grant Cottage in Upstate New York home for his last days.

I was proud to help ensure this significant place received this well-deserved designation. It is wonderful to see its legacy continue.
