WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 3, 2023

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 26

Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness. I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked. I wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar, O Lord, proclaiming thanksgiving aloud, and telling all your wondrous deeds. O Lord, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. Do not sweep my soul away with sinners, nor my life with bloodthirsty men, in whose hands are evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes. But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me. My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.

Verse of the Week: Sept. 3, 2023 — 2 John 6

This is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.

Ways to Help as Wildfire Devastation Continues in Maui

Over the last week, the world has watched in horror as those on the island of Maui, Hawaii endure loss and terrifying destruction from wildfires on the island. The fires have already claimed nearly 100 lives, with confirmation of more casualties sure to follow. As we all pray for a swift end to these wildfires, we also seek ways to help those impacted by the disaster. The Mid-South District has received communications from both the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of the LCMS and Lutheran Church Charities regarding their relief and assistance efforts.

Please click on the icons below for details on these efforts and ways to share a supporting gift:

If you or someone who desires to give is unable to donate online, donations by check can be made payable to the Mid-South District-LCMS, with "Maui Wildfires 2023" noted as the designation. Lutheran Hour Ministries began at the grassroots level as the Lutheran Laymen’s League, a group of 12 laypeople who came together to support the church in word and deed. What began with 12 has become a movement of tens of thousands of volunteers and supporters around the globe. In 1930, “There is a God” were the first words spoken on The Lutheran Hour® radio program broadcast over the airwaves to thousands of listeners.

Today LHM shares the Gospel message with people around the world more than 163 million times each week through ministry efforts such as Bible Correspondence Courses, Outreach Training, Bible Studies, Daily Devotions and, of course, The Lutheran Hour.
