Dear Friends,
It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

For months, Biden’s FDA ignored the warning signs of this baby formula shortage and dragged their feet until families were in crisis. I sounded the alarm months ago in February on behalf of mothers, fathers, and grandparents trying to feed their babies. Following my initial call to action, the FDA should have prioritized this immediately, but formula on shelves for families is still weeks away.
This week, I was proud to take steps forward to address this baby formula shortage and protect families from future supply chain shortages.

This week, I was proud to vote to advance the Access to Baby Formula Act (H.R. 7791) to support access to baby formula for WIC participants during supply chain disruptions and ensure this crisis never happens again.
Specifically, this bill will require baby formula manufacturers to submit a plan, including coordination with the USDA and FDA, on how to protect WIC participants, which account for half of infant formula sales in the United States, in the event of a supply chain disruption before receiving a WIC contract.
| |
This week, I also led legislation to introduce solutions that will restore supply chain operations, restock shelves, and ensure this never happens again.
The Babies Need Formula Now Act will increase the baby formula supply for parents as soon as possible. In addition to addressing this immediate crisis parents and babies are facing, this legislation also requires more oversight and accountability at the FDA to ensure the Biden administration is doing its job, acting quickly to maintain a healthy and safe supply of formula, and not wasting resources.
As a new mother, I know how important it is for families to have certainty, which is why I will continue to take action on behalf of parents and grandparents trying to feed their babies.

I joined Harris Faulkner on Fox News this week to discuss this baby formula crisis.
On Saturday, I released the following statement following the heartbreaking news of the Buffalo tragedy:
“Our nation is heartbroken and saddened to hear the tragic news of the horrific loss of life in Buffalo, NY. As a New Yorker, I am praying for the entire community and loved ones. It is a tragic reminder as we begin National Police Week, that we must particularly thank and honor our law enforcement and first responders who continue to face skyrocketing violent crimes across the nation.”

I am proud to announce that Essential Air Service will continue at the Plattsburgh and Ogdensburg airports.
I advocate for critical air service programs every year to provide our North Country families with convenient and more accessible travel, as well as attract tourists to our region. This grant funding will be used to secure nonstop, roundtrip flights from Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS) and Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) through public charter service provided by Contour Airlines.
I will continue to work to keep and expand this critical program throughout communities in New York’s 21st District.

On Wednesday, I met with members of the North Country Chamber of Commerce and local organizations from New York’s 21st District to hear their concerns and discuss my work to fully restore Northern Border travel and deliver federal grants including through the Northern Border Regional Commission.
On Thursday, I met with members of United Egg Producers from Chazy to discuss important issues in the agriculture industry, including food safety, labeling, and our agriculture workforce.
This week, I met with NY-21 advocates from the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement to discuss Alzheimer’s research and treatments. I have been proud to support critical funding for Alzheimer's research and lead legislation to support those diagnosed with this disease, as well as their caretakers.
I am proud to advance important legislation, which I cosponsored, to make the VA more transparent as our veterans access their hard-earned benefits.
When our veterans wrongly receive subpar care, they deserve to be able to voice their complaints and be heard by the VA. The Patient Advocate Tracker Act (H.R. 5754) will create an online portal where veterans can track the status of formal complaints they file through the VA. This will help give veterans access to the healthcare they deserve and will improve accountability for the VA to provide the best care.

I have witnessed the brave work of our law enforcement officers and first responders across New York’s 21st District but know the risks do not end simply when they take off their uniform.
This week, I voted to advance the bipartisan Public Safety Officer Benefit Support Act (H.R. 6943), which I cosponsored. This would expand the Public Safety Officers' Benefits program to include coverage for public safety officers who die as a result of suicide or are disabled as a result of traumatic experiences.
The importance of mental health resources for those who protect our communities is something that cannot be ignored, and I am proud to help pass legislation to provide first responders and their families with critical mental health support.
| |
I am working to protect U.S. taxpayer dollars from benefitting our foreign adversaries like Russia or China. This week, I introduced the Halting Academic Liaisons To (HALT) our Adversaries Act to ensure U.S. taxpayer dollars are not contributing to the capabilities or modernization of the militaries of U.S. foreign adversaries.
The threat posed by China and Russia continues to grow as they enhance their militaries and engage in malign activities around the world. I will continue to ensure the United States does not assist in those efforts and that we continue to maintain our military superiority over our adversaries.
