Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

Providing Behavioral Health Support for Border Patrol

I am proud to work to ensure our brave border patrol agents have the mental health support they deserve. This week, I introduced the CBP Behavioral Health Act to provide behavioral health support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel who are bearing the brunt of the Biden Administration’s crisis along the Southwest border.

Joe Biden’s failure to uphold the laws at our southern border has unfairly taken its toll on our brave border patrol agents. Many hardworking border patrol agents in my district, who protect our Northern Border, have been forced in no-notice deployments to fight Joe Biden’s crisis on the southern border. This tears apart families and is harmful to morale. Instead of rewarding them for their service, Joe Biden is shamefully doubling down on his failed policies and exacerbating his border crisis. In the face of this crisis, I am proud to stand up for our border patrol agents and ensure they have the resources, support, and access to care they deserve.

Improving Access to Veterans’ Services

We must never fall behind in keeping our promises to our servicemembers who have served and sacrificed to uphold our freedoms as Americans. This week, I voted to advance the bipartisan Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act, which I cosponsored, to authorize support for county veteran service officers who are great resources to help veterans and their families. Many veterans are not accessing their hard-earned benefits due to a lack of information and inability to complete necessary paperwork. This bill would help veterans understand the resources available to them, file benefit claims, and get representation in VA hearings.

I am proud to support legislation to improve access for our veterans no matter where they live and better equip our county veteran service officers to ensure rural veterans have the best resources available to them.

Passing Maternal and Child Home Visiting Program Legislation

This week, I voted to advance the bipartisan Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act of 2022, which I cosponsored. This bill would increase support for services that aid new parents and their children from before birth through kindergarten with in-home support. These resources have been proven to improve maternal and child health, family stability, child development, and school readiness. As a new mother, I know the benefit of having support, and I am proud to support this legislation to equip our future generation with resources to stay safe and succeed. By expanding the home visit program through this bill, new parents can have improved access to in-home support, creating improved maternal health, family stability, and better child readiness to equip our future generation.

Calling on Amtrak to Commit to a Timeline to Reopen the Adirondack Line

This week, I joined Plattsburgh’s WIRY radio to discuss my work to press Amtrak to commit to a timeline to reopening the Adirondack line from Albany to Montreal on behalf of families in our district that deserve certainty about this critical transportation.
