Good Day Dakota County: The World's Fair
On January 9, we will get the inside scoop from Mark Ritchie, President and CEO of the MN World's Fair Bid Committee, about what is involved with trying to bring the World's Fair to Minnesota in 2023. The Minnesota World's Fair Bid Committee was honored to receive the official backing by the U.S. government to be our country's representative in our bid to host a world's fair in the summer of 2023. Mark will talk about:
  • The proposed theme for Expo 2023, "Wellness and Well-Being for All: Healthy People, Healthy Planet,
  • How we got this far
  • What is the roadmap ahead
  • What you can do to help!
Members in attendance will also have the opportunity to win $300! Each month we draw the name of one of our member businesses. If there is at least one representative from that business in attendance, they win a cash prize. If there isn't a representative in attendance, the money is added to the pot for the next month and we're up to $300! Thank you to Home Federal for making this exciting addition possible. Your membership really does pay! Click here to register.

Thank you to January's program sponsor:

What You Need to Know: Paid Sick and Safe Leave Rules Will Affect Your Business
Join us on Friday, January 6 at your Chamber's Legislative Breakfast for a discussion on Paid Sick and Safe Leave. This new workplace mandate will likely impact your business, regardless of where you are located. Mandated sick and safe leave, minimum wages, and scheduling requirements are all being proposed at a municipal level in cities nearby. Could they be coming to your city? In 2015, legislation requiring all Minnesota employers to provide employees with paid sick and safe leave time was proposed but fortunately stalled in committee.  Since then, Minneapolis and Saint Paul have adopted their own local ordinances, thereby creating significant impacts on all Minnesota employers, especially on small businesses. In fact, if you do any type of business in these cities, you must comply. Learn more about the steps you must take to comply with this ordinance and how you can help us advocate for a statewide preemption solution. Register today

Member Spotlight: Endless Benefits
Kathy O'Connell, Eagan Convention & Visitors Bureau
I joined the Eagan Convention & Visitors Bureau two years ago in January as Sales Director. I have been lucky to promote Eagan tourism at many events, including tourism conferences and women's expos. I'm also emerging into the sports marketing scene. These events allow me to use my energy and passion to connect with people and promote Eagan!
Although I have been part of Dakota County Regional Chamber for only a short time, I felt an instant connection. It's exciting to develop new friendships, as well as get involved with events and committees. Being part of DCR Chamber allows me to continue to learn, grow and gain experiences! It's yet another opportunity to engage and connect to members of the Eagan business community. The benefits of being in the Chamber are endless!
