THE SCHOOL BUSES ARE BACK!
Well, friends, it’s official: the school year begins! Like the ducks flying north in the Spring , the buses are back!
That means summer traffic is slowly disappearing, school bells are ringing, children are heading back to classrooms—and those of us driving to work are discovering that our 15-minute commute has suddenly become a 20-minute exercise in patience and grace!
But those yellow buses are actually a wonderful reminder that something new is beginning.
There are new teachers, new classrooms, new friends, new challenges—and, for some, a brand-new school. There is excitement, nervousness, anticipation, and maybe a few parents quietly celebrating that everyone is finally back on a schedule! Maureen used to call it “the Mommy Dance” behind the buses as parents watched the kids go off for a new year!
September has a way of feeling like a fresh start for all of us. Our church calendar begins to fill up again. We reconnect after summer vacations. Ministries begin anew. And we have the opportunity to ask: What new thing might God be doing among us?
Isaiah reminds us: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive it?”
Perhaps that is our invitation this fall: slow down and pay attention. And when we are stuck behind that school bus in the morning or afternoon, take a deep breath. Those extra few minutes might just be an opportunity to remember that behind those windows are children beginning a brand-new chapter.
So let’s pray for our students, teachers, families, and bus drivers as this new school year begins. And let’s remember that new beginnings aren’t just for kids. God continues to give every one of us opportunities to learn, grow, begin again, and discover something new.
Welcome back, Pilgrim Church! On Sunday, September 13th, a new Church learning season is beginning—and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us!
