Dear Friends,

  As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11th on Friday, we remember a day that changed our nation and left an enduring mark on our hearts. We remember those who lost their lives, the families who grieved, and the many acts of courage and compassion that followed.

  In the midst of tragedy, we remember how people reached across differences to care for one another. Neighbors helped neighbors, communities gathered, and we discovered again that we are stronger when we stand together.

 During my nine years with you at Pilgrim Church, I have witnessed that same spirit of togetherness. I have seen it in the ways we have cared for one another through difficult seasons, supported families, welcomed new members, and discovered the gifts each person brings to our shared ministry. I have especially seen it in the ways we walked together through the uncertainty and isolation of COVID-19, finding new ways to worship, connect, and remind one another that we were not alone.

  Today, as our world continues to experience war, division, fear, and uncertainty, we may wonder how we can respond. The memory of September 11th reminds us that compassion is stronger than fear, and that even in the darkest moments, we can choose to care for one another.

  Our faith does not promise that we will never face hardship. It promises that God is with us in the midst of it. As the psalmist reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

As I look to the next year of change for me and for Pilgrim Church of Duxbury, UCC, toward retirement and the next chapter of our life together, I am grateful for the ways you have been a community of faith, love, and resilience. May we continue to widen the circle of welcome, resist hatred, seek peace, and remember that no one should have to face adversity alone.

  On this anniversary, let us remember with gratitude, grieve with compassion, and live with hope—trusting that God’s love is always with us, and that together, we can help make that love visible in the world.

HOLY JOE’S CAFÉ

The Mission/Outreach Committee will be collecting donations for Holy Joe’s Café this Sunday during coffee hour.

Holy Joe’s Cafe sends coffee to deployed military Chaplains of all faiths around the world.  It allows them to make personal connections with our military men and women over a cup of coffee. Your continued support is appreciated as we look forward to supporting Holy Joe’s Café’s worldwide mission of serving a little bit of home to those who serve our country. Look for our banner, posters and collection mugs in Fellowship Hall after church. 1.     Order and pick up cider doughnuts!

2.     Prepare bags of popcorn!

3.     Pick up apple cider!

4.     Help with the apple pie contest!

5.     Assist in set-up and break down!

6.     Decorate with hay bales, mums, corn stalks for front lawn.

7.     Donate treats and goodies!

"PRETTIEST PIE" and "BEST TASTING" APPLE PIE CONTEST IS BACK!

Once again, the search is on for Duxbury's PRETTIEST APPLE PIE and BEST TASTING APPLE PIE!

Think you have what it takes?

Sign up for the contest which will be held during our HARVEST-FEST on Saturday, October 3rd.

Please have your pies here by 11:00 AM. The public will vote for

"Prettiest Pie" until noon and the special apple pie judges will vote on

"Best Tasting" at 12:30 PM.

The contest winners will be announced at 1:00 PM.

We will be adding tickets to the Concert & Intermission Dessert

BOOK DISCUSSION

Our summer reading book discussion group will meet on Wednesday, September 23 from 6:30 – 8:00 in the Youth Room to discuss Life & Death & Giants by Ron Rindo! 

You can try getting a copy of at the library, listen to the audiobook, support your local bookstore, or (sigh) get it on Amazon.

We will be printing a new church directory this Fall. If you have moved, have a new email address or phone number, or are not currently listed in our directory and would like to be included, please call or email the church office so we can make sure your contact information is up to date.

The Pilgrim Association of the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ invites you to join us for another "Solidarity Through Song" event on Sunday, September 13th at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Pilgrimage UCC in Plymouth. Local churches and Pastors (including RB) will be leading the service of Prayer and Song as we affirm the solidarity we find in community, especially during challenging times!

Mark your calendars for the SSCYC Auction on Friday, October 2nd at Rockland Country Club! This event directly supports our Youth Group summer camp program. The golf tournament begins with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Not a golfer? No problem! Join us for dinner and a silent auction starting at 5:30 p.m.
