At the center of every domestic violence prosecution is the brutality batterers use to try to impose their will on their victims.
Like the attacks we see in all cases of domestic violence, these assaults were as horrifying as they were heartbreaking.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, call our Domestic Violence Helpline at (718) 286-4410. The Helpline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I urge victims who need safety planning and counseling services to utilize the Queens Family Justice Center (QFJC).
My Office makes sure that at the QFJC victims are assigned case managers from Safe Horizon so that, among other things, they can apply for family court orders of protection and seek shelter placement. Walk-ins are welcome at the QFJC, located at 126-02 82nd Avenue, but you can also call (718) 575-4500.
Confronting the reality that someone you love is dangerous can be painful and especially difficult, but it is necessary in order to protect yourself and loved ones from serious physical and emotional harm.
In Friendship,
Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
