This week, Mr. Gordon's 6th-grade ELA students learned about civics and how trials work in a democracy. They explored the trial process, looking at how laws are used, the jobs of jurors and witnesses, and how courts protect our rights. By reading the play "The Trial of Dayan," students understood how being a responsible citizen connects to legal proceedings. They saw why trials are important for fairness, justice, and following the law.
The students were excited and involved in the activity. They joined in discussions and shared thoughtful ideas with each other, making the learning experience better. In the end, Homeroom 6-12 decided the defendant was "Not Guilty," while Homeroom 6-11 couldn't agree on a verdict.
