From the Office of Diversity and International Student Services

Bishop Blanchet's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Team challenges everyone to make the most of this MLK Holiday. Our Black Student Union will lead students and faculty in remembering and honoring the legacy of Dr. King at an assembly this Friday, January 17. But let's not stop there!  Seattle offers plenty of opportunities to go a step deeper in how we celebrate and honor our county's namesake this year. To make it even easier, we've compiled a short list of local events and online resources in the days leading up to, and the days following, the actual holiday Whether you participate in the  MLK Day of Service , attend another local event or research more online, we hope everyone will take some time this month to learn and reflect on how each of us is called to carry on King's legacy and work for justice.

Last summer we read the book together. This January, let's go see the movie together!  The Multicultural Affairs Council (MAC) is excited to host a private viewing of Just Mercy , based on the book by Bryan Stevenson. The movie screening will be on January 27 at the AMC Oaktree Theater.  $10 pre-sale tickets are available by clicking here - this event will sell out! Save the date for a night of community and connection (and popcorn and prizes)! Check out the movie trailer here. Students, parents and ALL members of the BBHS community are welcome!

The Bishop Blanchet International Program is in need of host families for the 2020-21 school year. If you are interested in a cultural experience, are excited to welcome a high school student into your home, can provide a private bedroom and quiet study space for your host student to study, this could be for you! A generous monthly stipend is provided. Current international students are from China, Chile, Italy and Vietnam.

Host families do not need to have a student at BBHS - so please pass this information on to anyone you believe would make a good host. Please click here for more information or contact Janah Valenzuela at jvalenzuela@bishopblanchet.org or 206-527-7718.
