The Point Student Newspaper
This past week The Point journalism staff worked tirelessly to publish the first issue of the school year. Staff reporters wrote a variety of stories including articles about athlete updates, online learning adjustments, the NBA bubble success, problems with Harry Potter, the electoral college, and more! Without a traditional newsroom this school year, the staff had to get creative and adjust to working collaboratively online. Even though they couldn't interview students on campus, interviews were conducted via phone calls, text, Facetime, and Zoom. Thank you to the editorial team for putting it all together!
A special shoutout to the following staff members for their extraordinary contributions to this issue:
Best photo/graphic: Frances Stott
Best articles: Sydney Lyle and Jonathan Liu
Best spread/section: News (Aurora Khatibi Garrity and Aidan Sun)
MVP: CJ Haddad
Spirit of The Point: Alycen Kim

As a South Bay Families Connected partner school district, our teens have access to the new SBFC Virtual Teen Center. This was created by local teens from the South Bay community who understand the challenges that teens are facing during these current times. These teens have produced videos and curated resources to help support teens mental health and wellness. It is their goal to help others with practicing self-care and kindness, encourage teens to connect with their passions and remind the teen community they are not alone during these challenging times. Check out the resources at the link below.

Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk
This year the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is going virtual. Normally, the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk rallies thousands every October for a fun-filled celebration at the beach, where families and friends gather to walk from Manhattan Beach Pier to Hermosa Beach Pier and back in support of our children. Since 2009, the event has raised more than $13 million to support public education and the Friendship Foundation. Last year, our district had over 3,500 registered walkers which raised more than $257,000 for the Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF).
